Lake Carezza: A Weekend of Hiking and Pampering in South Tyrol

A weekend among time-weathered rocks, forests changing color, and breathtaking views. Welcome to the heart of the South Tyrolean Dolomites, between Lake Carezza and the Val d'Ega, at a 4-star hotel with a panoramic pool!

There are places that touch your soul at first sight. The Lake Carezza is one of them: a small body of water framed by the Latemar and its fir forests, which in the colors of autumn or the freshness of spring becomes something almost unreal. This weekend hiking trip organized in Trentino-Alto Adige takes you to explore one of the most fascinating and least crowded corners of the Dolomites —among fairytale canyons, mountain huts, and trails that smell of pine resin and freedom.
With an
expert guide by your side and a group of people who share your passion for the mountains, we’ll hike the Latemar Labyrinthand venture into the Bletterbach Geopark (UNESCO World Heritage Site), and reach the Haniger Alm with the Vajolet Towers in the background. The real icing on the cake will be our hotel with a spa and a panoramic pool overlooking the Latemar and Catinaccio!
Three days of hiking in the Dolomites, fresh air, delicious breaks at mountain huts, and those quiet moments of satisfaction that only the mountains can give you.

WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Program

First day

The weekend in the Dolomites gets off to the best possible start: we arrive in Val d'Ega, ready to leave the week’s stress behind and immerse ourselves in the alpine atmosphere of this quiet, green valley. We settle into the hotel, take a short walk to stretch our legs, and then gather together for the briefing with our guide, who will tell us what lies ahead over the next 3 days in the Dolomites. Dinner at the hotel is the group’s first moment of togetherness: the moment when we begin to realize that we’re setting off on something wonderful.

Second day

The Latemar Labyrinth and the Pearl Trail
There is something lunar about the
Latemar Labyrinth: a landscape of rocky debris, ancient stones that have tumbled down from the vertical walls of the Latemar group over the course of centuries, creating a strange and fascinating, almost alien—yet beautiful—environment. We start from the Costalunga Pass (Carezza Pass) and venture into this scenery unique to the Dolomites, with the peaks of the Latemar watching over us from above.
We traverse the labyrinth until we reach the
Mitterleger Hut, where we take a refreshing break before continuing on our way. From here, we follow part of the famous Path of Pearls, immersed in a spruce forest that looks like something out of a fairy tale. It is an accessible route, also suitable for those new to high-altitude trekking, yet one that offers immense satisfaction: for the colors, the scents, and the alpine flora and fauna to be observed along the way.

Route info: 3 hours, 8.8 km, elevation gain 330 m

Third day

The Bletterbach Geopark: A Journey Through Earth’s History
Today we’re raising the bar a little—and it’s absolutely worth it. The Bletterbach Geopark is an extraordinary place, designated a a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and to understand why, you just need to walk a few minutes through the canyon carved by the Bletterbach stream
The rock walls surrounding us tell 250 million years of Earth’s history: multicolored rock layers, fossils, and sediments dating back to remote geological eras. Walking through this canyon is like taking a real journey through time, accompanied by the guide’s voice, which transforms every stone into a fascinating story. The
hike to the Bletterbach Geopark is one of the most interesting in the entire Trentino-Alto Adige from a naturalistic and geological perspective, one of those experiences that make you see the world through different eyes even after you’ve returned home.

Route info: 4 hours, 11.5 km, elevation gain 600 m

Fourth day

Malga Haniger and the Vajolet Towers: The Catinaccio from the Inside
The last day is often the one that stays with you the longest. We set off from the Passo Nigra road, in the heart of the Catinaccio Group (the Rosengarten, the “rose garden” of Ladin legends) and begin our ascent through the silent woods of Tires. As we gain altitude, the Vajolet Towers begin to stand out against the sky in all their grandeur: spires of reddish rock that seem to guard something ancient and secret.
The trail leads us directly beneath the towers, where we are welcomed by
Malga Haniger: lunch at the mountain hut, featuring cheeses and traditional South Tyrolean dishes served with that authentic simplicity that alone makes the trip worthwhile. Then the descent through open meadows and the Rio Angelbach valley, with one last glance at the peaks that have kept us company all weekend.
We say our goodbyes: farewell Dolomites, until our next adventure!
