FAQ
About us
It is not, and never will be, a traditional travel agency or a standard tour operator: Jonas creates sustainable group vacations by bike, boat, and on foot, using low-impact transportation that allows you to fully enjoy the places you visit, slowing down the pace of everyday life and respecting the environment.
Jonas was born on May 13, 1988, in Venice, the result of a bet between friends who had a dream: to build a new alternative tourism business, aimed at all "young people," perhaps not in age but certainly in spirit. The target audience was curious, active tourists, open to discovering the world through group vacations: the bet paid off!
Our proposals, whether for weeks or weekends, are initiatives and itineraries designed for travelers without worries: on foot, by bike, or by boat. The important thing is not to rush. The first commandment isfestina lente, hurry slowly; the secondis to avoid non-places or clichés. And then stop, take in the flavors and smells that you cannot capture in a photograph. These are the rules of the slow tourist, the traveler who does not set off with the anxiety of arriving. Their destination is the journey itself, to be enjoyed minute by minute. For this reason, they cannot go faster than their legs allow, so mainly by bike or sail, propelled by the wind.
Jonas has a single national office in Vicenza, at Corso Padova 145.
However, we can be reached from anywhere in Italy (and beyond) by phone or email to book your vacation wherever you are.
If you have any questions, requests, suggestions, or comments, please contact us by clicking here or using the forms on all vacation pages. You can also interact with us on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/JonasVacanze, our Instagram profilewww.instagram.com/jonasvacanze, or in the chat box on our website at the bottom right.
Summer hours: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; closed on Sunday.
Winter hours: Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed on Saturday and Sunday.
How to book
Of course! Once you have chosen your destination and preferred dates, fill out the form on any page of the website or call us at (+39)0444-303001. We will check availability and reserve your place. You can also contact us via the chat box at the bottom right of our website.
For Jonas, people's quality of life, even on vacation, is an important value. For this reason, we like to create small groups where people can interact easily. We therefore recommend that you book as soon as possible, or you run the risk of being left behind. In the two weeks prior to departure, it is very difficult to find a place.
Once you have booked your place, we will email you all the instructions you need to confirm your vacation. We usually give you two days to pay the required fee and thus convert your option into a full booking. If you sign up at the last minute, the time frame is shorter, so we reserve the right to give you a tighter deadline.
We require a 30% deposit and the balance to be paid 35 days prior to departure.
Note: For certain trips (e.g., PNLTK, PNLWK, BTWTK, NAMTK, SAFTK, ETITK, CATTK), we require a 30% deposit and/or the balance 45 days prior to departure.
If you register after this deadline, you must pay the full amount in a single payment, including any supplemental insurance policies.
– PayPal via a secure website using the link sent by email following your booking request
– Bank transfer
– Online credit card payment via the link you will receive during the booking process. We accept Visa, Mastercard, PostePay, and American Express.
If you book through the online store at jonas.it, you can pay by credit card or PayPal.
Once you have chosen your destination and departure date, it is essential to check availability by calling 0444-303001 or filling out the form for the respective vacation on the website. After checking availability, our staff will send you an OPTION email and reserve your place for 2 days: within this period, you must complete all 4 booking steps, including payment. Once payment has been registered, you will receive a confirmation email. But let's take it one step at a time: Once availability has been checked and an option requested, you will receive two emails: 1 email – containing a PDF attachment with a summary of your request and a description of any additional insurance policies that can be taken out, the privacy policy, the terms and conditions of sale, and all the conditions relating to the tourist packages. 2 emails – (sometimes it may end up in your "promotions" folder, so check there too 🙂 ) containing a button to access the form to fill in with your details (and the details of the people traveling with you). In the form, we will also ask you to inform us of any intolerances, allergies, disabilities (and their level/severity) or other important information we need to know in order to best manage your booking and your vacation. As soon as your details are registered, you will receive an email containing your travel contract and another email to make the payment.
Only upon receipt of payment will we send you confirmation of registration by email.
If you are traveling alone, you are welcome! Many single people travel with us and choose all kinds of destinations. Our vacations always include accommodation in double or triple rooms/cabins. We take care of pairing people of the same gender and, where possible, of the same age. Only if it is not possible to pair you with someone else in a shared room will you be asked to pay a single supplement about a week before departure. For boats, if you are unpaired, you will not have to pay any supplements.
On all our vacations, except for those on boats, you can request a single room by paying a supplement: please note that some facilities have a very limited number of single rooms, so we cannot always guarantee their availability. There are no single cabins on boats, except in rare cases, but it is possible to have a double cabin for exclusive use for an additional fee. Given the type of holidays offered by Jonas, where the main purpose is to have fun and make new friends, we recommend sharing accommodation unless you have personal needs.
Don't forget to mention this in the notes section of your booking email. We will do our best to accommodate you, but please bear in mind, especially for boat trips, that it is often difficult to find special foods, such as gluten-free options, and we therefore recommend that you bring your own. However, we have highlighted the destinations that we would most recommend to those with this type of requirement.
It is the responsibility of all those who sign up for any of our initiatives to report any allergies, medication that must be kept refrigerated, personal limitations due to health conditions, pregnancy, disabilities, or anything else that could in any way make it difficult for themselves or others to enjoy the vacation at the time of booking. Failure to report such information may result in non-acceptance, even on site, in the activities included in the program.
Those who unfortunately have to cancel their vacation, regardless of the amount paid as a deposit, will be charged a penalty calculated as a percentage of the participation fee:
10% for cancellations up to 45 days before the departure date;
25% for cancellations up to 30 days before the departure date;
50% for cancellations up to 20 days before the departure date;
75% for cancellations up to 8 days before the departure date;
No refunds will be given after this deadline.
For some initiatives, the cancellation policy has specific penalties and deadlines: in this case, they are specified in the offer email you received when you made your booking.
The individual fee already includes medical and baggage insurance provided by Allianz Assistance. You can find the terms and conditions on this page.
When registering for the trip, you can also take out an insurance policy against penalties resulting from cancellation of the trip. Read the terms and conditions and choose the one that suits you best by clicking here.
By participating in a weekly vacation during the summer season, you will be entitled to a discount of €50 for each additional week booked. Discounts cannot be combined with other promotions.
On boat holidays:
From 0 to under 4 years old: only allowed on exclusive boats.
From 4 to under 6 years old: if in a double cabin with 2 paying adults, €200; if in a triple cabin with 2 paying adults, 40% discount.
From 6 to under 10 years old: in a triple cabin, €100 discount.
For other holidays:
Children aged 0 to 4: free.
Children aged 4 to 6: 40% discount in a triple room with two paying adults.
Children aged 6 to 10: €100 discount in a triple room with two paying adults.
For groups of at least 10 people, associations, and company clubs, special agreements and discounts on scheduled initiatives are available. Contact us for more information.
Extra nights can only be requested at the time of booking, not on site. For boat holidays, we can generally only book the night before departure. For all other holidays, we can book both at the beginning and at the end, subject to availability.
Travel is almost never included in the price (although it is, for example, for the Pantelleria holiday): people who take part in Jonas holidays come from all over Italy and depart from the airport or port closest to their home. This means that everyone can book the most convenient option for them! Remember that the earlier you book your holiday travel, the more you save, so don't wait until the last minute!
Approximately 7-4 days before your departure date, you will receive all the information relating to your vacation, including the contact details of the local representative.
If tickets are included in your booking, we will send you electronic tickets as soon as the airline makes them available, approximately 4-5 days before departure.
Of course! You can find all the information on this page.
Boating holidays
A boat vacation is by definition a vacation of freedom, however, the program we publish on the website is a general program that may vary from week to week based on:
- weather and sea safety conditions;
- conditions relating to traffic at sea, in anchorages, and in ports;
- water and food supply needs;
- participants' needs that can be met provided they do not conflict with the above points;
The crew's task is to make decisions taking all these elements into account in this order of priority.
Anyone can take part in a sailing vacation with Jonas; you don't need to be an experienced sailor. If this is your first time on a boat, once you get over any initial fears, you will discover how relaxing sailing is and enjoy one of the most evocative and rewarding experiences there is.
Jonas specializes in individual bookings, so you can travel alone and choose the program that suits you best. We will take care of forming the boat group. If you are traveling in a group, you can request an exclusive boat.
No, there is at least one crew member on every Jonas boat, so bareboat chartering is not possible.
Yes, Italian is spoken on all Jonas boats.
No, you will find all our safety equipment on board our boats, and during your week's vacation you will also have the opportunity to swim from the beach.
For most sailing itineraries, we have several boats available. Based on reservations, we will organize crews that are as balanced as possible. Therefore, there may be boats dedicated to couples/families and others dedicated to singles.
The galley is the "boat's pantry," but by extension, it also refers to all the food stored in it. "Far cambusa" therefore means going shopping for the week ahead. The collaboration begins upon boarding: together, you will decide what to buy, taking into account any food intolerances or allergies. If you are vegetarian, vegan, celiac, allergic, etc., don't forget to indicate this immediately in the booking form under "other requests." We will do our best to accommodate you, but please keep in mind, especially for boat trips, that it is often difficult to find special foods, such as gluten-free foods, and we therefore recommend that you bring them with you.
No matter how large a sailboat is, it carries a limited amount of fresh water, which, if used for domestic rather than marine purposes, disappears in a surprisingly short time. This is not a problem when you are in port because you can refill your water supply at any time, but it becomes a problem on days when you decide to sleep at anchor in a beautiful bay and you don't have the opportunity to fill your tanks. Furthermore, not all ports have water supply columns, and in the summer months, water in the Mediterranean is a very rare and sometimes even expensive commodity. With a little care, the problem can be solved: always turn off the taps in the bathrooms and kitchen, avoid "Hollywood-style" showers, and you're done.
Sailboats have large 12-volt batteries that provide power while sailing, powering all of the boat's systems, including the refrigerator. When moored in the marina, if there is a power supply column, the system will be connected to a normal 220-volt outlet. Sometimes there are 220-volt outlets on board similar to those at home, which allow you to charge cell phones and other electrical equipment, although it is advisable to bring a cable to connect to the cigarette lighter socket.
The beds on board the boats are almost always double beds, some also have cabins with bunk beds, double beds with an extra bed, and, rarely, single berths. If you are traveling alone, you will share the cabin (double or twin) with another person from the Jonas group whom you do not know but who is there to enjoy the same experience as you. The arrangement is assigned in chronological order, based on need but also on age, and cannot be contested.
On boat holidays, single cabins are not available except in rare cases. However, you can have a cabin all to yourself by paying a supplement that depends on the period in which you are traveling.
Of course! Over 50% of those who travel with Jonas are single, which means that on all our trips you will find people traveling alone or with a friend.
In general, sailing is calm and seasickness is an exceptional occurrence that mainly affects people with severe respiratory allergies or who suffer greatly when traveling by car. In any case, after a day or two, even these people get used to the new situation and the discomfort ceases. Based on our experience, we recommend following a series of rules to prevent it:
a) Avoid overeating. It is good practice on a boat to eat little but often and to prefer salty foods such as pretzels, anchovies, chips, pickles, salami, crackers, and anything else that can be useful for a mid-morning snack or as an aperitif before spaghetti with a hint of the sea;
b) Cover up well: cold is one of the triggers of seasickness;
c) Stay above deck. A sailboat is not like a ferry: it is essential to stay in the open air. Below deck or indoors, the body loses its orientation and can suffer more, which is why many people experience discomfort on ferries or ships that they do not experience on sailboats because they remain outside the entire time.
There are numerous medications on the market to treat/prevent nausea: patches, bracelets, and tablets are easily available in any pharmacy and can be used as needed. The only side effect is a little drowsiness.
Generally, sailing takes place in the first part of the day, with the possibility of going ashore daily for excursions or dining in restaurants along the coast.
To avoid space issues, remember to bring only the bare minimum, avoiding hard suitcases or trolleys that are impossible to stow away and opting instead for duffel bags (WITHOUT WHEELS!) that can be easily folded and stored in the holds. In summer, shorts and T-shirts are all you need. However, don't forget that even in summer, evenings can be cool and humid, so don't leave your sweatshirt, comfortable sweatpants, and waterproof jacket/raincoat at home. It is good practice to always wear shoes, preferably with light-colored soles such as Superga, as colored soles leave ugly marks on the boat's deck that are difficult to clean. Also, don't forget a hat, sunglasses, good sunscreen, a beach towel, a personal towel or bathrobe, and marine soap, which is less polluting. We recommend bringing a pillowcase, sheets, sleeping bag, or sheet bag, while pillows and blankets are provided on board. On some boats, you can have your own set of sheets and towels for a fee, which must be booked in advance.
All passengers must have a valid identity document for travel abroad. Identity cards renewed with a stamp are not recommended for travel on foreign waters. We also ask you to bring your booking form with you, show it to our staff on site, and keep it as proof of your purchased holiday.
No, the tender is used for connecting the boat to land and should only be used by crew members. For individual needs, inflatable boats can be rented on site for personal use.
No, transfer times from shore to boat will be agreed upon. After these times, to allow the crew to rest, it will be possible to reach the boat independently by taxi boat.
The skipper always explains, especially during the first few days, how the bathrooms work, how to open and close doors and cabinets, where the life jackets are located, etc. Above all, he emphasizes that any operation must be done without forcing anything, otherwise something could break. If you don't understand how something works, it's best to ask the skipper again.
Individual boarding does not involve chartering the entire boat, which normally requires a deposit to be paid in case of damage to equipment or parts of the boat. However, if someone, even unintentionally, causes damage or harm on board, they are required to reimburse the skipper on the spot with a lump sum to cover the cost of repairing the damage caused.
Dhow holidays
You can take part in a gulet holiday even if you have never been on a boat before. The gulet is one of the most comfortable boats we offer, but obviously it cannot be compared to a hotel or a cruise ship. With a little adaptability, you will discover how relaxing sailing can be and enjoy one of the most evocative experiences there is.
Jonas specializes in individual bookings, so you can travel alone and choose the program that suits you best. We will take care of forming the boat group. If you are traveling in a group, you can request an exclusive boat.
Yes, it is possible to book a private gulet, subject to availability. We recommend booking well in advance.
Of course! Over 50% of those who travel with Jonas are single, which means that on all our trips you will find people traveling alone or with a friend.
Yes, unless explicitly stated otherwise, Italian is spoken on all Jonas boats.
No, you will find all our safety equipment on board our boats, and during your week's vacation you will also have the opportunity to swim from the beach.
On the gulets, full board is provided, with the exception of two or three dinners (as per the program) during which you can go ashore to enjoy the typical specialties of the places visited. If you are vegetarian, vegan, celiac, allergic, etc., please do not forget to indicate this immediately in the booking form under "other requests." We will do our best to accommodate you, but please bear in mind, especially for boat trips, that it is often difficult to find special foods, such as gluten-free options, and we therefore recommend that you bring your own.
The crew normally takes care of everything: from purchasing provisions to preparing meals and cleaning inside and outside the boat. For privacy reasons, cabins are cleaned at the beginning and end of the cruise, leaving occupants to manage their cabins during their stay. However, the crew may be called upon to enter the cabins for specific reasons. Guests can actively participate in the vacation by helping the staff with daily activities.
All gulets have private bathrooms, so you will only have to share the bathroom with your cabin mate.
On boat holidays, single cabins are not available except in rare cases. However, you can have a cabin all to yourself by paying a supplement that depends on the period in which you are traveling.
All cabins are equipped with portholes that ensure both air exchange and excellent daylighting.
We assign cabins in order of booking and, where possible, according to participants' requests.
Each cabin is equipped with a porthole, ensuring that it is always well ventilated, which is ideal for a seaside vacation. Some gulets have air conditioning in the common areas, which can be used on particularly hot days.
A sailboat is not a bus: the sailing schedule is indicative because it depends on wind conditions and the choices made by each boat group. A sailing vacation is, in fact, the ultimate vacation of freedom. Please note that the skipper may decide at any time to change the schedule in order to ensure the safety and comfort of participants.

Cycling holidays
We organize over 50 cycling destinations, offering itineraries to suit every lifestyle and fitness level. Each vacation page provides details on routes and elevation gains, but if you have any questions, please contact us and we will help you choose the program that's right for you!
The mileage varies depending on the level of effort required by the vacation. You can find details of the excursions under the program for each individual day.
In general, city breaks involve circular routes (always returning to the same hotel) and cover around 20-30 km per day, with a little more cycling on the day dedicated to exploring the surrounding area, up to a maximum of 50/60 km. On touring holidays, however, the average mileage is 50-70 km per day.
For more detailed information, visit the Difficulty Levels section.
Whatever your destination, one of us will be there to welcome you and accompany you on a special vacation. You will finally meet one of the 'Jonas' faces who will accompany you throughout your trip: an expert on the places visited, they will be the group's link and the 'narrator' of the vacation.
During cycling holidays, bike rental is optional to allow those who wish to bring their own bikes. The bikes provided on site are suitable for the routes we will be taking and will be equipped with a lock. No deposit is required upon delivery of the bike, but in the event of theft or irreparable damage, you will be required to pay €120 on site to the guide. Jonas will cover the rest of the amount.
If you prefer to use an e-bike, we can reserve one for you, at an additional cost, after checking availability.
Younger children can sit in a child seat, have their own bike, or use a half-bike that attaches to an adult's bike. Let us know your child's height and we will check availability at your destination of interest.
Adults are not required to wear helmets on any vacation, but they can be requested and rented.
Walking holidays
We organize over 60 walking itineraries, including routes suitable for every lifestyle and fitness level. Each vacation page provides information on the routes and elevation gains, but if you have any questions, please contact us and we will help you choose the program that's right for you!
Appropriate clothing for hiking is required, preferably in layers. For trekking, it is important to have hiking boots or shoes with soles suitable for walking on rough terrain. Don't forget a backpack with a water bottle or thermos, a pocket torch for any night-time excursions, the necessary items for a quick snack (avoiding fizzy drinks and greasy, low-nutrient foods), and a plastic bag for rubbish.
With your own car and/or by public bus/minibus (for a fee).
They are nature guides or people who are experts on the places visited, who act both as readers and interpreters of the territory and as educators for a more conscious and correct relationship with nature.
