Program
First day
Welcome to Tuscany
Arrival and accommodation in hotel in Anghiari, meeting with the guide and dinner in a typical trattoria. Tomorrow our three days of group cycling along the Apennine ridge to visit the villages of Tuscany famous throughout the world, such as Sansepolcro, Anghiari and travel a short stretch of the Via di Francesco. This area, rich in unspoiled nature and history, is a paradise for lovers of cycling and outdoor experiences. We will then discover the Valtiberina, a land of art and culture linked to the places of Piero della Francesca, and immerse ourselves in an experience that combines nature, good food, and art in a part of Tuscany untouched by mass tourism.
Second day
Tiber, art, and Valtiberina by e-bike
Our weekend on e-bikes begins along the Tiber plain towards Sansepolcro, a village in the province of Arezzo, known for the works of Piero della Francesca. We will cycle to discover theProtected Natural Area of Local Interest of the Tiber Floodplain, a picturesque stretch of the river where the European beaver, extinct here for 500 years, has returned in recent years! Once we arrive in Sansepolcro, located at the foot of the last stretch of the Tuscan Apennines, we will discover this beautiful town and its cultural treasures, such as the civic museum with the works of the painter Piero della Francesca absolute masterpieces of art history, and the Aboca Museum, a journey dedicated to medicinal herbs inside an ancient palace. We continue our bike ride in Valtiberina, enjoying the intimate beauty of Anghiari, losing ourselves in its alleys and narrow streets, and then enjoying a well-deserved aperitif before a typical Tuscan dinner.
Third day
The scenic leg of the Way of St. Francis
Let’s set out on the slightly more challenging but definitely more scenic part of this tour. We’ll cycle along a short stretch of the Via di Francesco, the only route that allows you to reach Assisi in the footsteps of St. Francis. After tackling a few climbs, we’ll reach a magnificent viewpoint overlooking the mountains of the Valtiberina, stretching from the Alpe di Catenaia to Pratomagno and all the way to the Casentino and the parish church of Santa Maria di Sovara, in the sites of the famous ‘Battle of Anghiari.’ Hungry? Let’s delve even deeper into this region by sampling cured meats and cheeses made from sheep, cows, and pigs raised in the wild, and enjoying a tasting of local products, wine, and from an award-winning local farm! In the afternoon, we’ll return to the lodge to rest and get ready for our final dinner together.
Fourth day
