WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
Arrival in Recoaro Terme in the afternoon and check into our 4-star hotel.
We get ready for our evening excursion to the scenic hill of Santa Giuliana, which overlooks the village of Recoaro and its valley, where the ancient little church dedicated to the saint of the same name is located. The route winds through woods and picturesque hamlets that tell the story of the local area.
As an alternative to Santa Giuliana, you can visit the German bunkers dating back to the final stages of World War II. In particular, the command bunker at Fonti di Recoaro , a small exhibition has been set up, retracing the final stages of the war and the surrender of the German army in Italy, which was decided right here by the Nazi high command.
First dinner with the guide and our group.
Second day
Trekking along the Path of the Great Trees
Let's go on our group trek in the mountains, through the gentle undulations of theMontagnole Plateau, on the Path of the Great Trees. With their legendary aura, these plant patriarchs constitute a historical and cultural heritage, as well as a natural and environmental one. Among these, the majestic Linte delle Montagnole stands out, a monumental centuries-old lime tree. The route winds along a verdant plateau, which extends at the base of the wild walls of the Piccole Dolomiti. Along the way, we will come across a traditional mountain hut, where the traditional cheese, ricotta, butter, and fioretta has been repeated for centuries.
Third day
Where the mountains breathe
Today we walk in a true Dolomite environment. From Gazza, we climb towards the Passo Ristele, the pass connecting the Piccole Dolomiti and the Lessinia Veronese. From Cesare Battisti Refuge , the trail winds its way through mountain pastures and horizons: if the sky is clear, Lake Garda and the Adriatic Sea shine in the distance. We reach the 1,800 meters of the Zevola Pass, for an evocative lunch break suspended between heaven and earth, then the gentle descent towards the Passo delle Tre Croci. Here, the mountain slows down, and so do we.
Fourth day
Along the streets of history
From La Guardia we will climb along the Sentiero delle Mole, following the wild Val Rotolon through woods, water, and the spectacular millstone quarry. The trail enters the Campogrosso basin, at 1450 meters, along ancient smugglers' trails and traces of the Great War. Stop at a refuge for a free group lunch, among boundary stones that mark the old border between Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige. In the afternoon, return to Recoaro Terme, an elegant Belle Époque spa town, where the Art Nouveau style still tells the story of its golden age.
Fifth day
In the heart of Pasubio
Ascent to Mount Pasubio along the legendary Road of 52 Tunnels, a masterpiece of military engineering and one of the most famous routes in the Alps. A route that cuts into the rock and into memory: here, the Great War is still present, engraved in the walls and in the silence. From Bocchetta Campiglia (1216 m above sea level), the route climbs to the gates of Pasubio (1928 m above sea level), among peaks, gorges, and rocky walls. The total length of the road is about 6 km, of which about 2 km are carved into tunnels: a powerful journey to be experienced step by step.
Sixth day
Finale among pastures and silence
Last day, last excursion. We cross the woods and pastures of the Passo della Lora to Monte Rove, on the slopes of the Tre Croci mountain range. We walk slowly through open meadows and ancient mountain huts, until we discover the peat bog below Monte Rove, unique in the Little Dolomites, with its distinctive flora. In the early afternoon, we return to the hotel to collect our belongings and say goodbye! A fantastic trekking holiday in the Veneto Pre-Alps, in the heart of the Little Dolomites, discovering these places far from mass tourism and still deeply authentic.
Transportation to the starting points of the excursions will be by public transport and/or private cars. We therefore recommend arriving by car.
Recoaro can be reached by bus from Vicenza train station.
