WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
12/30 - Vicchio: The Gateway to Our Mugello
We arrive in Vicchio in the afternoon, nestled among the Mugello hills, and begin getting to know the group and our guide. Ahead of us lie bike routes, villages linked to the Medici family, places that have inspired great painters, and winter trails in the Apennines. For now, we take it slow, letting ourselves be welcomed by this corner of Tuscany. At dinner, we discover the flavors of Mugello cuisine, from potato tortelli to ribollita—the best way to start our journey together.
Second day
12/31 - Among Ancient Swords and Midnight Toasts
We cycle through the villages of Mugello: from Borgo San Lorenzo to San Piero a Sieve, all the way to the convent of Bosco ai Frati, which houses a crucifix attributed to Donatello. We travel through countryside shaped by the history of the Medici family, stopping at the Romanesque parish church of Sant’Agata and reach Scarperia, famous for its handcrafted knives and the Palazzo dei Vicari , where we’ll go on a tour of the museum of cutting tools. We’ll return to Vicchio to get ready for the New Year’s Eve dinner at the hotel: we’ll ring in the new year among new travel companions and Tuscan flavors.
Third day
1/1 - In Giotto’s Footsteps, by Bike
We’re starting the year off slowly: late in the morning, we hop on our bikes and follow back roads through the hills, past farmsteads, and with glimpses of theApennines. We reach the ancient Margheri Mill, still in operation, then Vespignano, Giotto’s homeland. Here we discover his birthplace and the bridge linked to the legend of his meeting with Cimabue. An itinerary that lets us see the Mugello through the eyes of its artists, before returning in the afternoon for dinner at the hotel.

For those continuing the trek with an overnight stay at a mountain hut:
The Throne of the Gods, in the silence of winter

On Mount Falterona, sacred to the Etruscans and called the “Throne of the Gods,” we walk through beech forests and along ridges, in the places where theArno. If there’s plenty of snow, we’ll put on our snowshoes. At the end of the hike, a night in the mountain hut: a fireplace, dinner featuring ribollita and a mixed grill, and the pleasure of sharing the day’s experiences. Please note that lodging at the mountain hut is in shared rooms with shared bathrooms.

3/1 - One last trail, a toast to Mugello
From the mountain hut, we walk to Castagno d’Andrea, a village associated with the Renaissance painter. We drive down to San Godenzo, where the ancient abbey also tells a chapter of Dante’s history.
