From Muggia to Poreč: A Section of the Parenzana by Bike

A three-day bike ride along the Adriatic coast, through Istrian villages, and along the Parenzana route, starting and ending in Muggia.

A cycling tour from Muggia to Poreč, in bikepacking, along one of the most interesting stretches of the northern Adriatic. You set off on your own bike, carrying only the essentials for three days on two wheels. The route follows the coastline through Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia, passing through seaside towns, small harbors, coastal stretches, and Istrian landscapes. After arriving in Parenzo, the return trip to Muggia follows the Parenzana, the former railroad line now converted into a bike path, winding through hills, villages, vineyards, and offering glimpses of inland Istria. You’ll stay for two nights in a hotel with breakfast and dinner included: a compact, dynamic, and well-organized trip, ideal for those seeking a weekend cycling getaway with a minimalist spirit but without sacrificing comfort at the end of each stage.

WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Program

Day 1:

We set off from Muggia, the last stretch of Italy before the Slovenian border, and begin cycling along the Upper Adriatic coast. The day takes us through a varied coastal landscape, featuring small marinas, stretches with ocean views, historic town centers overlooking the water, and smoother urban stretches. Along the way, we gradually immerse ourselves in the Istrian atmosphere, where languages, architecture, and landscapes tell the story of a borderland. Arrival at the hotel, check-in, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 2:

After breakfast, we’re already in Poreč, on the Istrian coast. The day is yours to enjoy in one of two ways: total relaxation—spending time by the pool, at the beach, or just taking it easy at the hotel—or a short bike ride from Poreč to Rovinj and back, for those who want to cycle a bit more along the coast and discover one of Istria’s most beautiful towns. In the late afternoon, we’ll meet up for an aperitif in downtown Poreč. Overnight stay and dinner at the hotel.

Day 3:

We leave Poreč and begin our return journey to Muggia, following the route of the Parenzana, the old railroad line that connected Trieste to Istria. The scenery changes along the way: from the coast, we head inland, passing through hills, vineyards, forests, tunnels, and small villages. This is the day that best embodies the spirit of bikepacking: we cycle through a slow-paced, rural, and unbroken landscape until we return to Muggia and the weekend comes to an end.
