WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
We have the whole day to comfortably reach our 3-star hotel in Fondo. The meeting with the guide and the rest of the group is around 6 p.m. to get to know each other and go to dinner. He lives in the area and will tell us about the guided excursions we will take in theUpper Val di Non , such as those to Lago Smeraldo, with its clear waters, the San Romedio Sanctuary and the spectacular gorges of the Rio Sass Canyon.
Second day
From the village to the lake: first step into nature
The first excursion of our guided mountain vacation is the perfect example of sustainable tourism because we set off on foot directly from the hotel. We discover the village of Fondo through a picturesque canyon that will take us to Lago Smeraldo, an oasis of peace surrounded by fir and larch forests. At lunchtime, we reach the Rifugio alle Regole, where we can choose between a packed lunch or a taste of traditional Trentino cuisine. We return through a pleasant forest of larch and fir trees. Before dinner, we can relax in the hotel spa.
Third day
Open views
The second group trek offers us a scenic walk through the meadows of the upper Val di Non, accompanied by views of the Brenta and Maddalene mountain ranges. In the afternoon, we will explore the Rio Sass Canyon , accessible thanks to an evocative trail of walkways and ladders wedged into the rocks. If we wish, we can end the excursion with a tasting at a typical Trentino brewery: there is no sustainable vacation without learning about local products and sampling them! We return to our 3-star hotel with a swimming pool for a little relaxation or a massage in the wellness center.
Fourth day
Between cultural boundaries and nature
We move on to Tret, a fascinating place that marks a hidden border between Ladin and Germanic cultures. Here, nature offers unique spectacles, such as the Pis Waterfall, with its 70-meter drop, framed by rocky walls and sparkling spray. We continue our journey through forests of larch and small flower-filled clearings to Lake Tret, an enchanted corner where time seems to stand still. We can relax by the lake or enjoy a traditional lunch in a mountain hut, savoring the best South Tyrolean products. On the way back, we will stop for a visit to a local beekeeper who will let us taste his products.
Fifth day
Towards Malga Romeno
We will walk along the paths of the Mendola Pass, the historic holiday destination of Emperor Franz Joseph and Princess Sissi. Together with the whole group, we will climb gently through breathtaking views and cool forests to Malga Romeno, at the foot of the majestic Monte Roen, at an altitude of 1769 meters. During this guided trek, we will pass through flower-filled glades and typical alpine huts, where the silence of the mountains blends with the fresh, pure air. Once we arrive at the malga, we will enjoy a moment of relaxation, accompanied by delicious Trentino dishes prepared with local products.
Sixth day
A sanctuary in the rock
Among the 10 things to see in Val di Non is definitely the Sanctuary of San Romedio. A path carved entirely into the rock leads to the sanctuary, which is located at the top of a 70-meter-high rocky obelisk in the middle of a wild valley. We return to Sanzeno along a scenic trail and visit the museum about the mysterious of the Raeti. Last SPA session before dinner together.
Seventh day
We have reached the end of our easy outdoor week in Trentino. Breakfast is the time to say goodbye to all our new friends and save the contact details of those we have bonded with most. We visited the most famous places in the Val di Non on foot and had aresponsible tourism experience in Italy. Before returning home, we recommend stopping at the Fondo dairy to take home some typical Val di Non cheeses to give to friends or enjoy yourself, remembering this wonderful week's vacation!
We recommend arriving by car because (short) trips will be made using participants' cars and organized carpooling. If you choose to use public transportation, no problem: the bus stop is right in front of the hotel, and for other trips you can ask for a ride from someone with a car (sharing the cost).
Every hour, a modern train departs from Trento and crosses the entire valley before continuing on towards Val di Sole. From the stations in Dermulo and Cles, there are bus connections to the many towns in the valley. You can find all the information you need at https://www.visitvaldinon.it/it/come-arrivare/.
