YOUR RATING

last year's survey score

The trails of the Little Dolomites await you for a weekend of snowshoeing and trekking in the Vicentine Prealps, discovering the trails of Monte Pasubio and Campogrosso.

Are you looking for a mini ski vacation in Veneto? Come and discover the Little Dolomites, the perfect place for trekking or snowshoeing. Accompanied by a local guide, you will walk along the trails on the slopes of the Tre Croci mountain range and those leading to the Campogrosso refuge, discovering breathtaking views among snow-covered mountain huts and centuries-old beech forests. One of the most beautiful excursions you will take is the Sentiero dei Grandi Alberi, a picturesque trail surrounded by majestic trees and the peaks of the Vicentine Pre-Alps. Walking in the Little Dolomites will be easy and, thanks to our environmental nature guide, you will learn about the plants and animals that live in this area. All you have to do is get your boots ready and open your mind to follow the tracks of the Little People who have inhabited and protected this place for centuries. An experience of walking, nature, and typical cuisine on weekends in February and March that will surely remain in your heart!

WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Program

First day

Meeting point in Recoaro Terme at around 3:30 p.m. with the group and the guide to begin exploring the town famous for its mineral waters and its districts! We move towards the valley and walk through the streets of Valdagno to discover its history and unique characteristics: the town is made up of more than 100 districts, scattered throughout the vast area of the Conca di Smeraldo. We will be welcomed in one of these districts in a house museum, where the citizens will prepare a tasting of wine and local products, before heading to the hotel for dinner.

Second day

Early morning in the snow-covered mountains!
Today we will head towards the
Campogrosso Pass, in the heart of the Little Dolomites. This area, just a stone's throw from the border with Trentino Alto Adige, is perfect for an excellent excursion to discover the unique features of the Little Dolomites. These mountains preserve the traces of times gone by and also boast spectacular mountain flora and fauna: the similarity with the Dolomites, their bigger sisters, is evident, but they offer a different kind of tranquility, being less frequented. Let's follow the scenic trail that will take us to the Campogrosso refuge, where we will enjoy traditional Venetian cuisine, such as gnocchi with fioretta and sopressa. After a delicious traditional lunch at the refuge , it will be time to return to Recoaro Terme.

Third day

Today we will take our last excursion in the Veneto Prealps : an easy trek (if there is snow, a nice group snowshoe hike) along the characteristic Path of the Great Trees. We will walk along a section of this beautiful trail where the woods are home to a wide variety of different trees and, walking with our guide, we will encounter these plant patriarchs, subjects of myths and legends that have watched over travelers and hikers for centuries. Our excursion will end around lunchtime, with our return to the village and departure; those who prefer to have lunch before leaving can arrange to have lunch at one of the mountain huts in the area. See you next time!

Good to know
Where
accommodation
A 4-star hotel located in the center of Recoaro Terme, in the heart of the Piccole Dolomiti Vicentine. It is a beautiful period residence run by welcoming and friendly staff, a quiet corner where you can feel at home. At the beginning of 2020, a 200 m² wellness center was inaugurated, featuring a Finnish sauna, herbal sauna, bio sauna, Turkish bath, salt room, infrared back treatment room, relaxation room, and herbal tea room (admission by reservation and for a fee).
Tour guide
A member of the Jonas team who coordinates the group and accompanies them throughout the trip.
Itinerary information
The excursions do not have any exposed points or particularly difficult passages. Elevation gain of 300/600 meters with 4/5 hours of walking.
Notes
Transportation to the starting points of the excursions will be by public transport and/or private cars. We therefore recommend arriving by car. This vacation is suitable for vegetarians and celiacs. Dog-friendly vacation: dogs are allowed but are not permitted in the dining room or wellness center. They can be taken on a leash on the routes included in the program and must be accustomed to walking in a group and possibly also on snow.
Important
The program may be subject to change due to weather conditions, traffic conditions, closing times, and/or at the discretion of the tour guide. In case of snow, the program will be converted to snowshoe trails.
Cars

I recommend arriving by car because (short) trips will be made using participants' cars. The starting points for excursions are about 10-20 minutes from the hotel, and the roads are always passable, even in snowy conditions. Please note that if you decide to use public transportation, you will share the transportation costs with those who make their cars available. From the A4 Milan-Venice motorway, exit at Alte-Montecchio and continue towards Recoaro. From the A31 Valdastico motorway, exit at Thiene and follow signs for Schio/Recoaro. From Vicenza, Recoaro can be reached via Montecchio and then up the Agno Valley, which starts in Trissino. Please note! I recommend setting your satnav to Recoaro Terme only and not the full address of the Hotel Trettenero, as many satnavs will take you on a longer route unnecessarily. Train: the most convenient and closest train station to Recoaro is Vicenza. From Vicenza station, take the bus; the bus station is next to the train station. Tickets can be purchased from the ticket machine or at the ticket office inside the station. If you are unable to purchase your ticket in advance, you can also buy it on board for an additional fee. Bus: from Vicenza, SVT (Società Vicentina Trasporti) offers direct connections to Recoaro. For more information, call the SVT switchboard on 0444 223111. To check the timetable for LINE 1, visit: https://www.svt.vi.it/ Air: the closest airports to Recoaro are Marco Polo in Venice and Catullo in Verona Villafranca. The Hotel Trettenero is located right in the center of Recoaro Terme.
