Cycling through neat vineyards and along country roads, in the silence of the most authentic France, as you pass through the land of the Châteaux: not just castles, but some of the most prestigious vineyards in the world. This cycling tour in France takes you on a journey of discovery through Bordeaux, the world capital of wine and the heart of the Gironde region. You’ll admire the spectacular reflecting pool at Place de la Bourse, walk barefoot on the majestic Dune of Pilat in Arcachon, and be captivated by the timeless elegance of Saint-Émilion. A group cycling and e-bike vacation with an Italian guide to visit one of France’s most beautiful cities, savor French cuisine, and enjoy local wines. Bordeaux is many things at once, just like the local dialect: Bordeluche, a mix of French, Spanish, and Occitan. An experience that leaves a sweet and lasting memory, just like the grapes that accompany every pedal stroke.
WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
Bordeaux is easy to reach: from the airport, it takes just 30 minutes by public transportation to get to the hotel, which is centrally located and just a short walk from the train station. Meet your tour guide, have dinner at the hotel, and take your first look at the city with an evening stroll along the Garonne River or toward the Basilica of Saint-Michel. We’ll explore authentic neighborhoods like Chartrons—the heart of the wine trade—Saint-Michel, and Saint-Pierre, as well as more modern areas such as the Bassin à Flot.
Second day
Arcachon by Bike: Ocean, Forest, and Stunning Views
Train ride to Arcachon included, plus a day of biking. Rent bikes and ride along coastal roads and trails surrounded by greenery, with views of the Atlantic Ocean. We’ll reach the Dune du Pilat, which, at 114 meters, is the tallest dune in Europe. After climbing it—there are also convenient stairways for those who prefer them—we’ll take in the endless sea, Cap Ferret, and the Banco di Arguin Nature Reserve. In the afternoon, we’ll return by train and have dinner at the hotel.
Third day
Bordeaux and its city center
We’ll pick up our bikes and continue our cycling vacation in France, exploring Bordeaux and its 200 km of bike paths. We’ll pedal through the streets of the ancient “Port of the Moon,” a UNESCO World Heritage Site, admiring its elegant palaces, churches, and historic wine cellars. Bordeaux will charm us with the aromas of its boulangeries, its cozy bistros, and the clinking of glasses ready for a toast. In the late afternoon, we’ll enjoy a special moment: an aperitif dinner at a riverside restaurant overlooking the old town, illuminated by the sunset.
Fourth day
Saint-Émilion and the Great Vineyards
Our cycling journey continues, still accompanied by our beloved Italian guide. We take the train to Saint-Émilion, one of the most charming towns in the Gironde. We pick up our e-bikes and cycle through the vineyards that have made this area world-famous. We cycle through the lively little squares, past the low-lying houses in warm ochre tones, and along the cobblestone streets of this medieval village. We’re in the heart of château country, so a stop for a tasting of local wines like Pomerol is a must. After this wine-tasting experience, we return to Bordeaux by train (always included in the package).
Fifth day
WalkingThrough the Streets of Bordeaux
Let’s explore Bordeaux on a pleasant walking tour, immersing ourselves in the atmosphere of one of France’s most charming cities. We’ll visit the famous Marché des Capucins, the city’s gastronomic heart, and stroll through elegant squares and historic alleyways. Don’t miss the group photo at the Miroir d’Eau and a stop in front of the Basilica of Saint-Michel. In the afternoon, you’ll have free time while our tour guide steps away for a mysterious errand... Upon his return, a special surprise awaits us: an aperitif featuring wines, cheeses, and artisanal bread, carefully prepared and shared in an intimate, family-like setting. A simple and heartfelt moment to feel welcome and bid farewell to the trip with the flavors of the region.
Sixth day
It’s the last day of this wonderful adventure with Jonas! After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye. If you’re staying a few more days, you can explore the Dordogne and Bergerac, or enjoy some wine between Barsac and Médoc along the famous Route des Châteaux, with a stop in Margaux, the “Versailles of wine.” See you on the next cycling vacation with Jonas!
