Cycling in Copenhagen, between hygge and the Little Mermaid

YOUR RATING

last year's survey score

Your vacation in Copenhagen by bike! A bike-friendly city, the perfect opportunity to get to know the culture of Denmark, one of the happiest countries in the world.

A cycling holiday in Copenhagen, the cycling capital, where you can experience hygge, that warm and intimate atmosphere that encompasses so much more. The Danish lifestyle is characterized by simplicity and hours spent outdoors, picnicking in parks and cycling along wonderful bike paths. With our local Italian guide , I would cycle through the charming Nyhavn district to reach Christianshavn and the free town of Christiania. You will see the symbol of the city, the statue of the Little Mermaid of Copenhagen, and lose yourself in the maze of narrow streets of Strøget, surrounded by culture and shopping. A visit to Tivoli, the amusement park in the heart of the city with some of the oldest rides in Europe, where you can enjoy the sunset while sipping a craft beer. The Danish capital is a must for cycling enthusiasts!

Program

First day

First rides in the bike-friendly capital
Welcome to Copenhagen: ready to cycle like true locals! The arrival is free, we are in the lively Sydhavn district. At 5:30 p.m., we'll meet at the reception desk, where our guide will welcome us for an introductory chat. Then it's time to get into the Danish spirit! We'll hop on our bikes and set off for our first evening ride: our guide will give us some basic tips on how to get around Copenhagen by bike, the city of two wheels par excellence. The destination? A restaurant in one of the coolest neighborhoods in the city, where we can enjoy the relaxed and cosmopolitan atmosphere of the Danish capital. A toast to our vacation in Copenhagen!

Second day

From the Little Mermaid to Strøget, pedaling to the rhythm of "
" Copenhagen is the European capital of cycling
, there really are bikes everywhere! It is therefore important to understand the rules of the cycle paths together. Our first ride takes us through some of the liveliest neighborhoods in the city: we arrive at the Nyhavn, the center of day and night life, and the maritime district of Nyboder. We arrive at the symbol of Copenhagen, den Lille Havfrue or the Little Mermaid, the protagonist of H.C. Andersen's fairy tale. We end the tour in the early afternoon at Rådhuspladsen where we park our bikes and lose ourselves along Strøget, the longest pedestrian street in the world. We return to the hotel at our leisure, with our noses turned up to admire the beautiful streets of the city. Dinner on your own.

Route information: approximately 15 km

Third day

Christiania and beyond: Copenhagen at its freest
Today we cycle to Christianshavn and the free town of Christiania. More than a neighborhood, it is a lifestyle, a rare experiment in direct democracy, always colorful and perpetually controversial. We continue cycling, stopping at the Parliament, then reaching Frederiksberg Park Have for a picnic of smørrebrød and typical Danish pastries under the beautiful northern sky. A tip for the afternoon is to pop into the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum. Dinner on your own. For the evening, we suggest a visit to the Tivoli Gardens, a magical and colorful amusement park, but at the same time a journey into the world of fairy tales and fantasy that will make us feel like children again.

Route information: approximately 20 km

Fourth day

Between royal forests and the North Sea
It's time for a day trip: we leave the city and cycle along the coast, accompanied by the sea breeze, heading towards Klampenborg. Our first stop is the Dyrehaven nature reserve, a huge forest of ancient oak trees that is home to over 2,000 deer and fallow deer: a true spectacle of nature! In the afternoon, we dive into the past (and into fun!) with a visit to Bakken, the oldest amusement park in the world, where there are still wooden roller coasters for those who want an adrenaline rush. And to end the day, we relax in pure Danish style: we can choose between a dip in the Øresund, the grassy beach at Charlottenlund or the golden sand of Bellevue Beach. Dinner on your own.

Route information: approximately 40 km

Fifth day

Contemporary Copenhagen, between design and pedals
Free morning. We meet in the early afternoon for theguided bike tour: we start from Cykelslangen, the famous "bike snake," then cycle along the public baths overlooking the canal until we reach the Sorte Diamanten, Copenhagen's iconic Royal Library. We cross Christianshavn to enter the new area of contemporary architecture. We continue to Amager Bakke, the revolutionary waste-to-energy plant converted into a ski slope and free viewpoint with an incredible view of the city. We end the day at the Reffen Street Market, a Danish street food paradise, perfect for sampling Copenhagen's vibrant nightlife of Copenhagen. Here, everyone chooses their favorite dish (dinner extra) and we enjoy the sunset over the city together.

Route information: approximately 20 km

Sixth day

Between street art, beer, and old Copenhagen
After a free morning, we meet up in the early afternoon. We cycle to the Meatpacking District, a former industrial area that has been transformed into one of the coolest neighborhoods in Copenhagen, with trendy bars, street art, and craft breweries. We cycle along Istegade, the symbolic street of old Copenhagen. Continuing on, we arrive at the historic Royal Shooting Range, now part of the urban fabric of Vesterbro, among period buildings and cultural spaces. We pass through Skydebanegade, an ambitious and theatrical housing project. Finally, we can learn about the brewing Carlsberg and Tuborg beerbrewing techniques: we will understand the cultural difference between those who drink one and those who drink the other... if in doubt, we can taste both! However, it is forbidden to ask for Ceres: it is Danish, but few people here know it. Last dinner together: we conclude our vacation with a dinner in company and a toast. Skål!

Route information: approximately 12 km

Seventh day

Tak, Copenhagen: see you on the road
Our journey through the Danish capital is coming to an end, but Copenhagen has the power to remain in our hearts! Its perfect bike paths, vibrant neighborhoods, and relaxed atmosphere have already made us want to return soon. Cycling among canals, parks, and innovative architecture has allowed us to discover an authentic and sustainable side of the city, where the bicycle reigns supreme. Those who are not leaving immediately can enjoy the city a little longer, perhaps browsing the stalls of the Smallegade flea markets in Frederiksberg and Israels Plads, looking for some vintage souvenirs or a last taste of local life. One last look at the canals and colorful buildings, with the promise to return soon to this extraordinary city. Tak, København!
