WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
In the afternoon, I arrive at the facility a few steps from Poppi, one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Italy, nestled in the heart of theUpper Casentino Valley. The village is easily accessible by public transport, thanks to its proximity to the railway stations of Poppi and Porrena and bus lines. To allow us to move around more freely in the following days, we will organize a carpool among the participants. After check-in, we will meet the guide and the rest of the group for an initial briefing. The day ends with a dinner featuring authentic traditional Tuscan flavors, perfect for breaking the ice and getting to know each other.
Second day
The deep breath of the forest
We reach the Passo della Calla, the starting point for entering the heart of the Casentino Forest National Park. From here, we begin walking along the ridge of theTuscan Apennines , immersed in a monumental beech forest , one of the largest in Europe. Our pace slows down, becoming natural: it is a true forest bath, regenerating for body and mind. We reach a picturesque hill, also celebrated by Ludovico Ariosto in Orlando Furioso, which offers a spectacular view of the Sasso Fratino Nature Reserve, the first Italian site recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its biodiversity. Return to the hotel for relaxation and dinner.
Third day
The sacred forest of La Verna
A holiday in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines takes us to Chiusi della Verna, surrounded by majestic woods and monumental trees. We walk along the picturesque Bosco delle Fate, immersed in the silence of the Casentino Forests, on a trek that regenerates body and mind. We reach the Sanctuary of La Verna, a place where spirituality, nature, and mystery come together. The guide recounts stories and profound meanings. Return to the hotel, relax, and enjoy dinner in the garden of the historic residence.
Fourth day
Tuscan freedom
A day off in Casentino, dedicated to slow living. Relax in the park of the historic residence surrounded by Tuscan landscapes, with the option of cooling off in the pool. Alternatively, take a walk along the trails of the Casentino Forests or travel by train to Arezzo, among art, historic squares, and authentic atmosphere. A day without plans, to experience Tuscany following your instincts.
Fifth day
The sacred mountains of Casentino
We continue our week of trekking in Tuscany by entering the deepest and wildest heart of the Casentino Forest National Park, one of the oldest and best-preserved wooded areas in Europe. We walk along historic trails and ancient mule tracks immersed in centuries-old forests, a true natural sanctuary. We reach the summit of Monte Falco, the highest peak in the park, from where the view stretches across Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. From here, we continue towards Mount Falterona, a mountain sacred to the Etruscans and the source of the Arno River. The day ends at the picturesque Lago degli Idoli, a lake full of charm and mystery, nestled in the forest. Relaxing evening with dinner and company at the hotel.
Sixth day
Camaldoli, the silence that accompanies
We conclude our vacation with one last trek in the park, crossing majestic forests of white fir trees that offer coolness and silence. We reach Camaldoli, one of the most evocative spiritual places in the Apennines, and visit the ancient Hermitage of Camaldoli, founded over a thousand years ago. We then resume our journey along shady and secluded paths to Monte Penna, a natural balcony overlooking Lake Ridracoli and the Sasso Fratino Nature Reserve. An intense finale that encapsulates all the magic of Casentino: nature, silence, and deep connection. Return to the hotel for dinner.
Seventh day
After breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to the Casentino and the new friends you have met along the way. You exchange smiles, final stories, and contact details, with the promise—often kept—to meet again soon on new trails. This medium-level trek is one of the Jonas' must-do experiences: a journey that has been tried and tested over the years, offering a balanced combination of nature, walking, culture, and conviviality. Trekking in the Casentino Forest National Park offers authentic emotions, far from mass tourism, and deep contact with unspoiled and silent environments. You return with pleasantly tired legs, a light mind, and a heart full of images, scents, and memories that will continue to walk with you even after your return.
The property is located near Poppi, a 40-minute drive from Arezzo and Florence. Train: from Arezzo, take the Arezzo-Pratovecchio/Stia line to the Porrena stop. The station is less than 100 meters away from the property as the crow flies. We recommend checking carefully for trains running on August 15.
The property offers free car parking.
