Program
First day
Depart from Italy on an international flight to Namibia, leaving Europe behind and heading straight for the most authentic Africa. It is a day of anticipation and imagination: endless deserts, vast skies, remote roads, and wild nature begin to take shape from the window. A long flight marks the beginning of an adventure on the road in Africa through Namibia and South Africa, among wide open spaces, biodiversity, and iconic landscapes.
Second day
Kalahari, first African slopes
Arrival in Windhoek and first encounter with the most authentic Namibia. After meeting our guide and picking up our vehicle, we immediately set off south, leaving the asphalt behind to enter the Kalahari Desert. The red dunes begin to outline the horizon, the light becomes intense, and silence takes center stage. In the afternoon, we reach a tented camp surrounded by nature, where the savannah meets the desert. Among oryx, endless skies, and clean air, we experience our first African nightunder one of the most spectacular starry skies on the planet.
Third day
Arrow trees and surreal landscapes
After breakfast, we explore the Kalahari Desert on an exciting nature drive, entering the heart of its fragile ecosystem among wildlife, dunes, and endless horizons. We then continue south, where the landscape changes again and becomes almost surreal. We reach the famous Quiver Tree Forest, one of most iconic places in Namibia, with hundreds of quiver trees that seem to have been carved by light. A short distance away, we visit Giant's Playground, a labyrinth of enormous boulders shaped by time. Overnight stay in a farm, immersed in the tranquility of African nature.
Fourth day
The breath of Fish River Canyon
The day is dedicated to one of Africa's great natural giants: the Fish River Canyon, second only to the Grand Canyon in the world. On the way, we will stop at an oasis for a good coffee or gin tasting. We will walk along the edge of the canyon to admire its monumental dimensions, between vertiginous walls, intense light, and deep silence. A primordial landscape, perfect for those who love photography, extreme nature, and wide open spaces. In the afternoon, we will reach Ai-Ais, an oasis in the desert, where we relax in the natural hot springs, letting go of the fatigue of the journey. Overnight stay in a lodgeunder the African sky.
Fifth day
From the border to the realm of succulents
We cross theOrange River, the natural border between Namibia and South Africa, entering one of the most remote and surprising places on the continent: the Richtersveld National Park, a UNESCO site and the only Arid Biodiversity Hotspot in the world. A rugged and powerful landscape, where mountains, canyons, and plateaus are home to hundreds of endemic succulent plants. It is the heart of Namaqualand, famous for its desert bloom, visible only in the southern spring. Among unexpected colors and incredible shapes, we discover one of the rarest ecosystems on the planet. Overnight stay in the park chalets, surrounded by nature.
Sixth day
When the desert blooms on the Atlantic
The morning is dedicated to a walk in the heart of the Richtersveld National Park, among endemic succulent plants and spectacular geological formations shaped by time. Every step is a journey into the rarest biodiversity in southern Africa. We then continue towards the ocean, crossing the Namaqualand, the absolute protagonist of the legendary desert bloom: for a few weeks, the arid landscape is transformed into a multicolored carpet of wildflowers, one of the most incredible natural spectacles in the world. Arrival in Port Nolloth, a town overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, linked to the history of diamonds. Overnight stay in typical beachfront houses, lulled by the sound of the waves.
Seventh day
Atlantic coast in bloom and wildlife
We follow the Atlantic coastline through sand dunes, saltwater lagoons, and endless expanses of wildflowers: the Namaqualand is at its best, transforming the desert into a mosaic of colors that only exists for a few weeks a year. The day passes slowly, with frequent stops to admire the view, perfect for nature photography and observing the coastal landscape. We reach Lamberts Bay, famous for its island populated by tens of thousands of Cape gannets, cormorants, and sea lions. With a little luck, we may also spot Cape penguins.
Eighth day
Between sacred mountains and wild nature
After breakfast, we leave the Atlantic Ocean behind and head inland, reaching the picturesque Cederberg Mountains. A surprising change of scenery: sandstone mountains, remote valleys, and unique flora that, after the rains, covers the slopes with incredible colors and shapes. Once we arrive at our mountain chalets, immersed in silence, we take the time for a short walk in nature, perfect for observing the rich mountain birdlife. A slow afternoon, surrounded by pure air, spectacular views, and the authentic rhythm ofmost hidden Africa.
Ninth day
Sacred caves and natural art
The morning is dedicated to exploring the fascinating Stadsaal Caves, among rocky passages and ancient sites with rock paintings by the San people, a precious testimony to the ancestral cultures of southern Africa. After lunch, for those who still have energy, we walk along the paths of Truitjieskraal, among spectacular sandstone sculptures shaped by the wind and the incredible biodiversity of the fynbos, one of the richest ecosystems in the world. At sunset, an authentic South African braai, a South African term that refers to barbecuing as a social event in Africa, and therefore a big party together. We return to our chalets immersed in the silence of the Cederberg Mountains.
Tenth day
Towards the ocean, among fossils and whales
We leave the Cederberg Mountains and slowly descend towards the Atlantic coast. Along the way, we visit one of the most important fossil sites in the region, where traces of a distant past emerge, telling the story of a completely different Africa. In the afternoon, we reach Paternoster, one of the most authentic fishing villages on the West Coast: white houses, the roaring ocean, and a timeless atmosphere. Walk on the beach at sunset, gazing out to sea and, with a little luck, spotting humpback whales offshore. Overnight stay in Paternoster.
Eleventh day
On the road with the San people
After breakfast, we reach !Khwa ttu, one of the world's most important projects dedicated to the protection and promoting the culture of the San, also known as the Bushmen. We experience an intense and deeply authentic day: we walk with the San, listen to their stories, and discover their ancestral connection to the land, plants, and animals. We share meals and daily life, coming into contact with one of the oldest cultures on the planet. Overnight stay in traditional huts, for a truly human and cultural experience.
Twelfth day
Flavors of the Cape among vineyards and historic farms
Leaving !Khwa ttu behind, we immerse ourselves in the agricultural landscapes of the Cape, among orderly vineyards and rolling hills, until we reach the famous Spice Route. Here we enjoy a day dedicated to the flavors of South Africa: tasting wines, craft beers, and gins produced on a historic 17th-century Dutch farm. We also visit a nearby farm, among goats, cheeses, and artisanal jams, to discover the most authentic side of local tradition. Overnight stay on the farm, immersed in the tranquility of the South African countryside.
Thirteenth day
Cape Town, between ocean and mountains
Today we reach Cape Town, one of most iconic and fascinating cities in Africa, suspended between the ocean and the mountains. The program remains flexible and depends on the weather: if conditions allow, we will climb the legendary Table Mountain, symbol of the city, by cable car with a panoramic walk at the top, or on foot for those who want a more active experience, returning from the top. In the afternoon, we travel along one of South Africa's most scenic coastal roads, between spectacular cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean, until we reach our base by the sea, where we will stay for the next few days.
Fourteenth day
Where the land ends
The day is dedicated to exploring the Cape of Good Hope, one of South Africa's most iconic locations. We visit the interpretive center, historic lighthouses, and ocean-facing headlands, walking along scenic trails through cliffs, coastal heaths, and spectacular views of the Atlantic. Here, wildlife takes center stage: ostriches and eland roam freely in a primordial landscape. In the late afternoon, we reach one of the last Cape penguin colonies to observe these incredible animals up close in their natural habitat, in one of the most evocative moments of the day.
Fifteenth day
Africa's secret garden
We dedicate our last full day to one of the most amazing places on the trip: the Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, considered one of the seven most beautiful botanical gardens in the world. A place capable of astonishing even those who are not passionate about botany, thanks to its size, extraordinary South African biodiversity, and famous walkway suspended among the treetops. We stroll among collections of cycads, monumental avenues, and corners of unspoiled nature, where it is not uncommon to encounter small wild animals. A slow and powerful finale, perfect for saying goodbye toSouthern Africa.
Sixteenth day
In the morning, transfer to Cape Town airport and return flight to Italy. It's time for farewells, last glances, and lasting memories: deserts in bloom, stormy oceans, ancestral cultures and boundless landscapes. A journey through Namibia and South Africa that comes to an end, but continues to live on in images, emotions, and the profound feeling of having traveled through one of the most intense and authentic corners of the planet.
