Botswana and Victoria Falls: trekking and safaris in the heart of Africa

An exploratory journey through Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia, on foot and by water, from the Okavango Delta to Victoria Falls, in the heart of wildest Africa.

A trip through Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana is much more than a safari: it is an experience of exploration on foot, on water, and on the road, in the heartof authentic Africa. In small groups of 8-12 people, we will cross the Okavango Delta, one of the largest inland ecosystems in the world, where the river disperses into the Kalahari Desert, creating lagoons, islands, and reed beds inhabited by extraordinary wildlife. We will slowly navigate the waters of the Okavango using mokoros, traditional canoes, walk among elephants, hippos, and antelopes, and sleep under unforgettable starry skies. We will then enter the territory of Zambia and Zimbabwe to reach the mighty Zambezi River at its most iconic point: Victoria Falls. Get ready to admire these natural wonders from two different perspectives! Three countries in one nature trip to Africa: it will be an intense and engaging experience, designed for those who want to go trekking and on safari in the national parks of Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia, while also meeting the local people.

WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Program

First day

You depart from Italy independently on an international flight to Maun, the gateway to Botswana and the legendary Okavango Delta. A day of travel that marks the transition from Europe to Africa, leaving routine behind and slowly entering into the spirit of adventure. It is a time of anticipation and imagination: savannahs, rivers, safaris, and wild nature begin to take shape. The beginning of an authentic journey in Africa, where the pace changes and the gaze opens up to distant horizons.

Second day

First encounter with Africa
Arrival in Maun, gateway to the legendary Okavango Delta, one of the most extraordinary ecosystems in southern Africa. After transferring to the camp, time slows down: we rest, settle in, and listen to the first sounds of Africa. The meeting with the Italian nature guide marks the beginning of the journey: presentation of the itinerary, the landscapes and cultures we will encounter, including safaris, unspoiled nature, and local life. A first moment of sharing to consciously enter into the spirit of the journey. Dinner and overnight stay.

Third day

The Okavango Delta and the stars
The day passes slowly, beginning with brunch at an African pace. In the early afternoon, we enter the heart of the Okavango Delta, sailing aboard traditional mokoros, canoes carved from wood and used by local communities. We glide silently over the water, between channels, islands, and reflections, enjoying a low-impact river safari, ideal for observing the wildlife and landscape without disturbing the balance. Arrival at the island campsite, setting up camp, dinner, and overnight stay under an African sky studded with stars.

Fourth day

At a slow pace in the Delta
At dawn, the Okavango Delta awakens amid soft lights and the sounds of nature. After breakfast, we set off on a walking safari with an expert guide to learn how to read the territory: tracks in the sand, distant calls, animal behavior. Walking here means slowing down, observing carefully, and developing a deep respect for the environment. After lunch, we return by mokoro, gliding smoothly over the water, and continue by truck to Maun. An intense and authentic day that reveals Africa at a leisurely pace. Dinner and overnight stay.

Route information: approximately 8 km hike

Fifth day

Inside Moremi
After breakfast, we leave Maun and head towards Moremi National Park, crossing Mopane forests and increasingly wild landscapes. The journey itself is already a safari: the first sightings accompany us along the way and give us a taste of the richness of this unique ecosystem. In the afternoon, we gradually enter the park, one of the most spectacular in Botswana, where water and savannah intertwine to create extraordinary habitats. We settle into a private camp, surrounded by nature, to enjoy the evening amid silence, African sounds, and a starry sky. Dinner and overnight stay.

Sixth day

The silence of Moremi National Park
A whole day dedicated to exploring Moremi National Park, one of Africa's richest ecosystems. In the morning, an off-road safari through savannahs, channels, and forests, with constant sightings of wild animals. We then continue in a mokoro, navigating a lagoon connected to the Okavango Delta, to observe the landscape from a slow and silent perspective. The Italian guide accompanies the experience, helping to interpret animal behavior and natural balances. In the afternoon, there is time to relax and enjoy a second safari at sunset, when the light transforms the savannah. Dinner and overnight stay.

Seventh day

From the park to Maun
In the morning, enjoy your last safari in Moremi National Park, crossing different environments that reveal the complexity of this ecosystem: savannah, wetlands, forests, and water channels. It's time to observe again, with a now trained eye, capturing details and behaviors that had only hinted at themselves in previous days. In the afternoon, return to Maun, gateway to the Delta. The day ends with a convivial dinner, a time dedicated to sharing experiences and memories of intense safari adventures. Dinner and overnight stay.

Eighth day

In the silence of the Pan
After breakfast, we set off for Gweta, crossing increasingly open and rarefied landscapes. After lunch, we goon a walking tour of the Ntwetwe Pan, an ancient salt lake that has now been transformed into an immense lunar landscape. Walking here means confronting the emptiness, silence, and primordial force of nature in one of Botswana's most iconic settings. At sunset, we return to camp, have dinner around the fire, and spend the night outdoors under an intense and unforgettable Milky Way.

Route information: approximately 4 km hike

Ninth day

In the shade of the baobab trees of the Makgadikgadi Pans
After breakfast, we move to the edge of the Pan for a special encounter with meerkats, observed with full respect for their natural behavior. A lighthearted and curious moment that tells the story of daily life in the Botswana desert. We then continue to the Makgadikgadi Pans area, where the camp is set up under large baobab trees, thousand-year-old trees that symbolize resilience, memory, and the slow passage of time. The afternoon is dedicated to relaxation, between the pool and the silence of Africa. A day of rest and contemplation, perfect for recharging your batteries. Dinner and overnight stay.

Route information: approximately 4 km hike

Tenth day

Towards the Chobe River
We leave the Makgadikgadi area and set off towards Kasane, on a day of travel that becomes an integral part of the experience. The route crosses areas rich in wildlife, and sightings along the way make the journey a real safari on the move. The landscape gradually changes, following the course of the water, until we reach the banks of the Chobe River, one of Botswana's most iconic locations. We set up camp in an extraordinary natural setting, dine under the African sky, and spend the night immersed in the sounds of the savannah.

Eleventh day

Chobe, two views of the wild
The day begins with a morning safari in Chobe National Park, famous for hosting one of the largest concentrations of elephants in Africa. In off-road vehicles, we cross savannahs and river areas, observing the wildlife at the most active time of the day. In the afternoon, we change perspective with a cruise on the Chobe River, a privileged vantage point for animals and birds that come close to the water. A slow and silent safari, complementary to the land safari, which shows Chobe from another angle. Dinner and overnight stay.

Twelfth day

Victoria Falls
We cross the border into Zimbabwe and in the afternoon we reach the spectacular Victoria Falls, known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, "the smoke that thunders." An iconic African landmark, where the power of water and the force of nature are manifested in all their grandeur. The visit is accompanied by environmental and historical insights to help us understand the importance of this unique site. Amidst the spray, rainbows, and panoramic views, we experience one of the most exciting moments of the trip. Dinner in town and overnight stay.

Thirteenth day

Between Zambia and Zimbabwe
After breakfast, we cross the border into Zambia to explore the Zambian side of Victoria Falls, with new viewpoints over the Zambezi River. We reach Livingstone to visit the museum dedicated to the history of African exploration, a journey into the past through travel, maps, and stories. Lunch in town and return to Zimbabwe in the afternoon, with free time in the local craft markets to discover colors, fabrics, and traditional objects. Dinner in town.

Fourteenth day

After breakfast, transfer to the airport and return flight. The day is dedicated to travel, but also to reflection: the colors of the Okavango Delta, the safaris in Moremi and Chobe, the silence of the great Pan and the power of Victoria Falls remain in our eyes. An intense journey, experienced slowly and respectfully, which allowed us to get in touch with the most authentic African nature. The return marks the end of the journey, but not of the emotions, which will continue to accompany us for a long time to come. Arrival in Italy.
