Program
First day
I arrive in Villach in the afternoon, a lively town in Carinthia that’s easily accessible by train from Udine. After checking into the hotel, take some time to settle in and get ready for the start of this self-guided cycling vacation, designed for those who love to travel independently but with everything already organized.
With maps in hand, over the next few days you’ll follow one of Europe’s most fascinating cycling routes: the Alpe-Adria Cycle Route, an itinerary that crosses geographical and cultural borders between Austria, Slovenia, and Italy. Stage by stage, the landscape will change its rhythm and character, until you reach Udine and the UNESCO gem of Cividale del Friuli—the perfect conclusion to a slow, cross-border, and deeply personal journey.
Second day
After breakfast, there will be a briefing with the local guide, followed by bike pickup, route maps, and a tour overview. This self-guided bike tour along the famous Alpe-Adria Cycle Route starts in Villach and follows the path that runs alongside Lake Ossiacher See, Carinthia’s third-largest lake, offering a vibrant start to your vacation filled with stunning views. We’ll be staying in Villach again tonight. Tomorrow, this self-guided cycling experience will continue—ideal for those who want to savor the pleasure of traveling at their own pace without sacrificing the security of a well-organized trip.

You’ll leave Villach to tackle the famous bike path that connects Mozart’s city, Salzburg, to the Adriatic Sea.Today’s cycling route will take you along the Drava River to the Italian border. Stop in Camporosso, where the cable car takes you to 1,790 meters above sea level, to the summit of Monte Santo Lussari and its sanctuary. After a well-deserved rest, we’ll continue along the bike path toward Tarvisio, followed by relaxation at the hotel and dinner. With luggage transport included, full organization, and the freedom to choose between a regular bike or an e-bike, this self-guided tour is perfect for those who love exploring new areas worry-free and at their own pace.

Today you’ll cross a new border—into Slovenia! Explore Tarvisio and its natural beauty, then continue on toward Kranjska Gora, in the heart of the Slovenian Julian Alps. In the afternoon, visit the Fusine Lakes for a relaxing break, and then head back to Tarvisio to return to the hotel and enjoy a delicious dinner.
Once again today, you’ve enjoyed the freedom to set your own pace for cycling and exploring, but with the comfort of an organized vacation.
Fifth day
This cycling or e-bike tour
continues along the route ofthe old Pontebba railway line. A stop atChiusaforte Station—a symbol of this bike path—is a must. You’ll arrive in Venzone, a medieval village with charming double stone walls. We’ll resume our journey along the Strada dei Castelli del Friuli Venezia Giulia, which takes us through enchanting villages, rolling hills, and historic manors. The day ends in lively Udine, a city rich in charm and traditions.
Sixth day
We set off again from Udine on our bikes and wrap up the tour with a highlight: Cividale del Friuli, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historic town offers picturesque views and exceptional cuisine. In the afternoon, we’ll ride another short stretch of this famous bike path back to Udine.

We’ve reached the end of this wonderful cycling vacation— a self-guided tour that includes planning, maps, luggage transport, and the option to rent bikes or e-bikes. A perfect tour for those who love cycling tourism without being super-experts, an itinerary that took us through incredible landscapes, cities rich in history and unique traditions, giving us an authentic experience. The nearest train station is Villach HBF (Hauptbahnhof/city), which is about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. For the return journey, take the train from Udine.
For those arriving by car, we recommend leaving it in Udine and traveling to Villach by train on the first day.
