Over the centuries, pilgrims and travelers from Northeastern Europe traveled along it, leaving traces of their passage in the towns they passed through: links between communities, art, architecture, and knowledge that have been preserved to this day.With 4,700 km of mapped route, 7 countries, 51 UNESCO sites, and 245 walking stages, it is the longest European route to Rome. In Italy, it winds for about 1,400 km through 7 regions from Tarvisio to its arrival at St. Peter's Basilica.The route leads through the mountains of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the villages of Veneto, the art cities of Emilia-Romagna, the ridges of the Apennines, the hills of Tuscany, and the woods of Tuscia, until it reaches Rome.
