WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
Welcome to elegant Ljubljana! Winter is one of the best seasons to discover the Slovenian capital and its surroundings!
Once in Ljubljana, we will meet our guide for a briefing and have dinner together in a typical Balkan restaurant. Let yourself be captivated by the flavorful dishes and the liveliness of the Slovenian people: strolling through the alleys of the historic center, you're sure to encounter a few street artists!
Then it's time to rest: the next few days will be spent on an urban trek in Ljubljana with a visit to the Christmas markets, a trekking trip to Lake Bled, a visit to the Radovljica Beekeeping Museum and a visit to the caves of San Canziano. All with a local guide to support us!
Second day
Let's start with our urban trek in Ljubljana: we start with a visit to the house of Jože Plečnik, the brilliant architect to whom the city owes many of its most famous buildings and monuments! We continue with our guided tour of Ljubljana , crossing the wonderful Tivoli Park, passing by the famous Triple Bridge and the Bridge of Dragons and Shoemakers' Bridge. A breath of fresh air in this city nestled among the mountains, European Green Capital 2016. We then immerse ourselves in the characteristic central market with typical flavors and artisan products along the banks of the Ljubljanica. Strolling along the river, we will be enchanted by its charm, enriched by small illuminated bars and lively nightlife.
Third day
The trip to Bled will be a sweet one: between sips of hot chocolate and bites of Bled's traditional dessert (the original cream mille-feuille), we move on to Radovljica, the capital of beekeeping and chocolate! We will explore this medieval town and learn about its delicious specialties with a visit to the beekeeping museum!
Fourth day
Let's set off to visit one of most beautiful places in Slovenia. Less well known and less frequented than those of Postojna, the spectacular Caves of San Canziano are a true marvel, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside, there are tunnels, caves with ceilings over 30 meters high, and a real canyonwith gorges over 100 meters deep! We walk along the path accompanied by the roar of the Tima River, which flows energetically underground. A stop at the viewpoint to contemplate the beauty of unspoiled nature and then we return to Ljubljana: free afternoon to relax and prepare for our last evening together.
Fifth day
On the last morning after breakfast, we say goodbye and agree to meet again for our next trekking holiday in Slovenia!
Ljubljana is easily accessible from Trieste by bus, usually well served by Flixbus.
It takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to drive from the Italian border to Ljubljana, so it is very convenient from northern Italy. The hotel has a few parking spaces, which you can request upon arrival. To access Slovenian highways, you must purchase a vignette or toll sticker.
