This weekend sailing trip in Venice is designed to let you experience the lagoon from a different perspective, away from the hustle and bustle and the most popular routes. We set sail from Ca’ Savio with a small crew and move at the rhythm of the water, the wind, and the tides. We reach the island of Sant’Erasmo, where we leave the boat for a few hours and hop on bicycles to explore it on our own, with a stop to savor the local flavors. We then sail toward Burano and/or Torcello and reach San Francesco del Deserto, which we visit accompanied by one of the friars who live there. From the boat, we also admire Poveglia and San Servolo, until we arrive in front of St. Mark’s Square.
Here, sustainability is above all a way of traveling: small-scale operations, local suppliers, bikes rented on-site, sailing, and the time needed to explore a region.
WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
We’ll meet at Ca’ Savio around 6:00 p.m. to board the boat and have a briefing with the skipper. Once we’ve stowed our luggage, we’ll stock the galley together and start getting familiar with the boat and life on board. For dinner, we can cook together or choose a nearby restaurant. The first evening is free, with no sailing planned: we’re already on our way, even though the boat is still at the dock. We’ll spend the night on board.
Second day
Sant'Erasmo by Bike and the Northern Lagoon
After breakfast, we cast off and set course for Sant'Erasmo, one of the lagoon’s agricultural islands and the perfect place to explore it on two wheels. We pick up our bikes and set off on our own to tour the island, taking the time to stop along the way and discover a Venice that’s very different from the historic center. During the tour, we’ll stop for a tasting at a local establishment. For lunch, we can either stay on the island or return to the boat and prepare something together. In the afternoon, we’ll continue sailing toward Burano or Torcello, where we’ll spend the evening. Free time for a stroll and, if we feel like it, dinner ashore. Overnight stay on board.
Third day
Hidden Islands and Venice Seen from the Water
The day begins with one of the weekend’s most unique destinations: San Francesco del Deserto, a small island in the lagoon accessible only by boat. We go ashore for a guided tour led by one of the friars, exploring the monastery, the cloister, and the garden. We then set sail again toward the heart of the lagoon. We pass by San Servolo and Poveglia, two islands with very different histories that we’ll discover from the water together with the skipper, before reaching St. Mark’s Basin. When the wind, water traffic, and sailing conditions allow, we set sail to enjoy the passage past Venice. In the afternoon, we head toward Ca’ Savio, then return and disembark.
travel to the boarding location, a voluntary donation to support the upkeep of San Francesco del Deserto Island, any applicable tourist tax, and anything not listed under “Includes.” Please note that provisions, marina fees, and fuel are not included, as they depend on the group’s arrangements and are managed on-site through a shared fund; they typically amount to about €35–40 per person per day.
