WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
We arrive in the heart of the Ayas Valley and arrive directly at the hotel in the late afternoon. After checking in, there is time to breathe in the mountain air, settle in, and begin to slow down. At 6 p.m., we meet the group and the AIGAE guide for a briefing: itineraries, elevation gains, technical advice, and initial suggestions on the great alpine views that await us. This is an essential introduction to best tackle a medium-high altitude trek. Dinner at the hotel is the first opportunity to share our enthusiasm, expectations, and desire to set off. Our adventure in the Aosta Valley begins here.
Second day
The Blue Lake and Monte Rosa
Let's start this week of guided trekking with a tour of the Blue Lake, an enchanting stretch of water nestled between the mountains, from which you can admire breathtaking views of the glaciers of Monte Rosa. The route begins by crossing a dense forest to Fiéry, one of the oldest villages in the Val d'Ayas, before taking the famous TMR trail. After a long plateau, the path leads us to Blue Lake, with its intense turquoise waters. We will set off again in the direction of the Ferraro refuge, where a delicious lunch of Aosta Valley specialties and a spectacular view of the valley await us.
Third day
Ru Cortod: walking on water
Today we have an exciting day of group trekking along the picturesque Ru Cortod route, an ancient irrigation canal that for centuries has carried water from the glaciers of Monte Rosa to the arid lands of Saint Vincent. This high-altitude route, always around 2000 meters, winds through woods, alpine pastures, and breathtaking views of the valley, offering a unique hiking experience in the heart of the Aosta Valley. After a day immersed in nature, a little relaxation, a good book, and we will meet for dinner to share the emotions and most beautiful moments of this extraordinary excursion.
Fourth day
Free day
Today is the perfect opportunity to indulge your tastes. You can visit one of the many medieval castles that make the Aosta Valley (such as Verres, Issogne, Fenis, etc.) and the Bard Fortress, or if you prefer something more traditional, head to Aosta, where you can treat yourself to a gourmet lunch, visit the archaeological museum, or immerse yourself in the rejuvenating atmosphere of the Prè Saint-Didier thermal baths. Don't want to leave the mountains? There are Courmayeur and the futuristic Skyway Monte Bianco to the 3,466 meters of Punta Helbronnen, a magnificent viewpoint on the roof of Europe. For those arriving by public transport, all these itineraries are obviously recommended, but you will then need to reach the various locations by public transport or by organizing carpooling with other participants on site.
Fifth day
High-altitude ring
Today, a magnificent trekking loop in the upper Ayas Valley, surrounded by breathtaking views. We set off directly from the hotel, with our boots on, crossing a beautiful fir forest until we reach the characteristic hamlet of Crest. From here, we continue to the ancient village of Cuneaz, the highest Walser settlement in the valley, with its perfectly preserved wooden houses. We continue to climb along the Cuneaz valley towards the pass that connects the Val d'Ayas to the nearby Val di Gressoney. After a well-deserved break to enjoy the view and recharge our batteries, we begin the descent that will take us back to the starting point, thus completing today's excursion.
Sixth day
Mount Zerbion: the grand finale
Our group vacation in the Alps takes us today to the summit of Monte Zerbion. From its summit, you can enjoy a 360° panoramic view of the Aosta Valley and its giants of rock and ice: Monte Rosa, Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, Gran Paradiso, Rutor, Gran Combin and many others. A shuttle bus takes us up to the village of Antagnod, and then continue on foot along the ancient mule track that leads to the Barmasc. A fantastic day, the icing on the cake of this trekking holiday , and the guide accompanying us was truly the highlight of this week among the peaks!
Seventh day
After breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to the beautiful Val d'Ayas. With smiles on our faces, our legs perhaps a little tired but our hearts full of emotions and panoramic views, we take with us the memory of an unforgettable adventure. We explored breathtaking trails, breathed the pure air of the high mountains, and admired the highest peaks in Europe. Every step has given us unique views, moments of sharing, and the satisfaction of having enjoyed a group experience, doing outdoor activities in contact with nature. With the desire to return soon, we look forward to our next vacation!
The most convenient way to reach the Aosta Valley by public transport is to take the bus from Milan Lampugnano station to Verres: https://aosta.arriva.it/courmayeur-aosta-milano/. From here, take the VITA bus to Val d'Ayas, getting off at Monte Cervino (not indicated on the bus timetable but the bus does stop here and it is opposite the hotel) or at Frachey, 200 m away: https://www.vitagroup.it/linee-urbane-extra-vda/
