Over the next few days, we will walk through the medieval streets of Gamla Stan, the historic heart of the city, and the more modern and alternative neighborhoods such as Södermalm and Norrmalm. Second day
Today we begin our exploration with a guided walk through the historic heart of Stockholm, Gamla Stan, a labyrinth of medieval alleys, picturesque squares, and charming views. Here, time seems to have stood still: cobbled streets lead us past ochre-colored buildings, ancient shops, and traditional cafés. We will admire the majestic Stockholm Cathedral, known as Storkyrkan, which we will visit inside to discover its fascinating mix of Gothic and Baroque art. We will then continue to Stortorget, the oldest square in the city and today one of the most photographed corners of the capital. After lunch on our own, we will move on to the Södermalm district, the most alternative and creative side of Stockholm. Once a working-class neighborhood, today it is an irresistible mix of vintage shops, art galleries, and designer cafés. We will walk along Mosebacke and Monteliusvägen, two of the city's most beautiful scenic walks, with incredible views over the rooftops of Gamla Stan and the waters of the archipelago. We'll end the afternoon by exploring the hipster area of SoFo, the beating heart of Swedish creativity, with its independent bookshops, sustainable fashion boutiques, and trendy bars. A walk through the past and present, from historic Stockholm to the most innovative!
Third day
Let's explore two sides of Stockholm: the modern and vibrant Norrmalm, the city's commercial and cultural district, and the elegant and refined Östermalm. In Norrmalm, we find theaters, historic department stores, and lively squares, such as Sergels Torg, the beating heart of contemporary Stockholm. We move on to Östermalm, the city's most exclusive and residential neighborhood, famous for its designer boutiques and high-class restaurants. We stop for lunch at the Östermalms Saluhall covered market to sample Swedish gastronomic specialties, including the famous gravlax (marinated salmon) and tasty köttbullar meatballs. In the afternoon, we leave the city to immerse ourselves in the nature of Djurgården, one of Stockholm's greenest islands and one of Europe's largest urban nature reserves. Here we visit the famous Vasa Museum, which houses the world's only intact 17th-century warship. The story of this ship, which sank on its maiden voyage and was recovered almost perfectly preserved after more than 300 years, is an extraordinary testament to Swedish engineering and maritime culture.
Fourth day
This morning we begin with a visit to Stockholm City Hall ( Stadshuset), one of the most iconic buildings in the Swedish capital and famous for hosting the prestigious Nobel Prize banquets every year.
After this immersion in Swedish history and traditions, we head to the harbor to board a scenic boat that will take us to Drottningholm. This approximately one-hour cruise on Lake Mälaren will allow us to admire the idyllic landscape of the islands that dot the lake, offering us postcard views of forests, elegant villas, and wooden piers. Once we disembark, we will visit the charming Drottningholm Palace, the private residence of the Swedish royal family and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will return to Stockholm in the afternoon by public transport, but the day is not over yet! Before returning to the hotel, we will discover one of the most surprising wonders of the Swedish capital: the Stockholm subway, known as "the world's longest art gallery." With over 90 of its 100 stations decorated with incredible murals, sculptures, and art installations, this transportation system is transformed into a veritable underground museum.
Fifth day
Today is the perfect day to experience Stockholm however you want. The city offers endless experiences, so you can choose to immerse yourself in culture, relax in nature, or discover new hidden corners. If you love museums, you could visit Fotografiska, the famous photography museum with international exhibitions and spectacular views of the city from its panoramic bar. Or you could opt for Skansen, the world's first open-air museum, where you can stroll among historic houses and craft shops and encounter Nordic wildlife, including moose and reindeer. If you want to make your day truly special, why not take the opportunity to explore the Stockholm archipelago? With over 30,000 islands and islets, this natural wonder is easily accessible by local ferry. Among the most evocative destinations is Vaxholm, with its pastel-colored wooden houses and medieval castle, or Fjäderholmarna, a small paradise just a few minutes from the city, perfect for a walk by the sea and a tasting of Swedish specialties. Our local guide will be on hand to offer suggestions and help those who wish to organize an extra excursion.
Sixth day
The last day of our trip to Stockholm will be dedicated to a wonderful outdoor excursion combining sea, art, and spectacular views. In the morning, we will embark on a scenic cruise in the Baltic Sea lasting about an hour on a public ferry, sailing among the islets that dot the bay of the Swedish capital. This is the perfect opportunity to admire Stockholm from a unique perspective and discover the charm of its relationship with water. We will disembark at Lidingö, one of the most picturesque islands in the inner archipelago, where we will visit Millesgården, the house-museum and gardens of Carl Milles, the famous Swedish sculptor. In the afternoon, we return to the city, where you will still have free time for a last stroll through the city parks, a visit to the Nordic design shops, or simply to relax before departure. Stockholm will have won you over, and it will be difficult to leave!
Seventh day
It's time to say goodbye to Stockholm, but we take with us memories of an unforgettable week of discovery, exploring history, nature, and Nordic culture.
