WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
Welcome to Stockholm, the green capital of Scandinavia! Arrival at the hotel and check-in. In the evening, we’ll meet for an introductory chat with our Italian guide, who lives here and will help us discover the city in the most authentic and engaging way. Over the next few days, we’ll stroll through the medieval streets of Gamla Stan, the historic heart of the city, and through the more modern and alternative neighborhoods like Södermalm and Norrmalm. We’ll venture into the greenery ofDjurgården Island, discovering its most natural and cultural side with a visit to the Vasa Museum. We’ll sail across Lake Mälaren to Drottningholm Palace and admire Stockholm’s art-filled subway. On Saturday, a cruise on the Baltic Sea will take us past sculptures and breathtaking views. This is a perfect city to explore on foot, thanks to its pedestrian boulevards and paths surrounded by greenery. Ready to go?
Second day
Today we begin our exploration with a guided walk through the historic heart of Stockholm, the Old Town Gamla Stan, a labyrinth of medieval alleyways, picturesque squares, and charming views. Here, time seems to have stood still: the cobblestone streets lead us past ochre-colored buildings, ancient shops, and traditional cafés. We’ll admire the majestic Stockholm Cathedral, known as Storkyrkan, and tour its interior to discover its fascinating blend of Gothic and Baroque art. We’ll then continue to Stortorget, the city’s oldest square and today one of the most photographed spots in the capital. After lunch on your own, we’ll head to the Södermalm neighborhood, Stockholm’s most alternative and creative side. Once a working-class neighborhood, today it is an irresistible mix of vintage shops, art galleries, and designer cafés. We’ll stroll through the streets of Mosebacke and Monteliusvägen, two of the city’s most beautiful scenic walks, with incredible views over the rooftops of Gamla Stan and the waters of the archipelago. We’ll wrap up the afternoon by exploring the hipster district of SoFo, the beating heart of Swedish creativity, with its independent bookstores, sustainable fashion boutiques, and trendy bars. A stroll through past and present, between historic Stockholm and its most innovative side!
Third day
Let's explore two sides of Stockholm: the modern, vibrant side of Norrmalm the city’s commercial and cultural district, and the elegant and refined side of Östermalm. In Norrmalm, you’ll find theaters, historic department stores, and lively squares, such as Sergels Torg, the beating heart of modern Stockholm. We move on to Östermalm, the city’s most exclusive and residential neighborhood, famous for its designer boutiques and high-end restaurants. We stop for lunch at the Östermalms Saluhallto savor Swedish culinary specialties, including the famous gravlax (marinated salmon) and tasty köttbullar meatballs. In the afternoon, we leave the city to immerse ourselves in the nature of Djurgården, one of Stockholm’s greenest islands and among Europe’s largest urban natural oases. Here we visit the famous Vasa Museum, which houses the world’s only intact 17th-century ship. The history of this vessel, which sank during its maiden voyage and was recovered nearly perfectly preserved after more than 300 years, stands as an extraordinary testament to Swedish engineering and maritime culture.
Fourth day
This morning we’ll start with a visit to the Stockholm City Hall (Stadshuset), one of the most iconic buildings in Swedish capital and famous for hosting the prestigious Nobel Prize banquets every year.
After this immersion in Swedish history and traditions, we head to the harbor to board a sightseeing boat that will take us to Drottningholm. This cruise on Lake Mälaren will allow us to admire the idyllic landscape of the islands dotting the lake, offering postcard-perfect views of forests, elegant villas, and wooden piers. Once we disembark, we will visit the charming Drottningholm Palace, the private residence of the Swedish royal family and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll return to Stockholm in the afternoon via public transportation, but the day isn’t over yet! Before heading back to the hotel, we’ll discover one of the most surprising wonders of the Swedish capital: the Stockholm Metro, dubbed "the world’s longest art gallery." With over 90 of its 100 stations decorated with incredible murals, sculptures, and art installations, this transit system transforms into a veritable underground museum.
Fifth day
Today is the perfect day to experience Stockholm exactly as you like. The city offers endless possibilities, so you can choose to immerse yourself in culture, relax in nature, or discover new hidden corners. If you love museums, you might want to visit the Fotografiska, the famous photography museum with world-class exhibitions and a spectacular view of the city from its rooftop bar. Or you could opt for Skansen, the world’s first open-air museum, where you can stroll among historic houses and artisan workshops and encounter Nordic wildlife, including moose and reindeer. If you want to make the day truly special, why not take the opportunity to explore the Stockholm archipelago? With over 30,000 islands and islets, this natural wonder is easily accessible by local ferry. Among the most picturesque destinations is Vaxholm, with its pastel-colored wooden houses and medieval castle, or Fjäderholmarna, a small paradise just minutes from the city, perfect for a seaside stroll and a tasting of Swedish specialties. Our local guide will be available for suggestions and to help those who wish to organize an extra excursion.
Sixth day
The last day of our trip to Stockholm will be dedicated to a wonderful outdoor excursion combining the sea, art, and spectacular views. In the morning, we’ll set sail on a scenic cruise on the Baltic Sea lasting about an hour on a public ferry, sailing among the islets that dot the bay of the Swedish capital. A perfect opportunity to admire Stockholm from a unique perspective and discover the charm of its relationship with the water. We disembark at Lidingö, one of the most picturesque islands in the inner archipelago, where we will visit Millesgården, the house-museum and gardens of Carl Milles, the famous Swedish sculptor. In the afternoon, we’ll head back to the city, where you’ll still have some free time for one last stroll through the city parks, a visit to the Nordic design shops, or simply to relax before departure. Stockholm will have won you over, and it will be hard to leave!
