Program
First day
Gravina, between canyons and symbols of fertility

Tour of Gravina sul Piano to visit the Cathedral and the Aqueduct Bridge. Visit to the Cola-Cola Museum Cola-Cola Museum: but not the drink, we are talking about the symbol of the city of Gravina, as well as a symbol of fertility! These are the traditional whistles of the area, here they call them coula coula.
Second day
Matera, the turmoil of the Sassi
Direction Matera, for a gentle trek to discover the famous City of the Sassi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993, deeply rooted in the Murgia surrounding area. Together with the local guide, we will visit the Casa Grotta, the Benedictine Monastery, the Cathedral, and the Church of Santa Lucia alle Malve: the first female monastic settlement of the Benedictine Order. Next, we will visit Palazzo Lanfranchi, where Giovanni Pascoli taught. Return to the hotel for dinner.
Third day
Underground Gravina and Matera at sunset
We stop at Gravina for a walk along the monumental axis of this city. Accompanied by the historical and cultural guide, we visit the Crypt of San Vito Vecchio, with its late medieval frescoes, dominated in the center by a majestic Christ Pantocrator. We visit the "gravina" of Gravina up to the Roman Bridge and the Botromagno Necropolis. It is almost sunset and Matera will enchant us like a real nativity scene, dotted with lights: an unforgettable magical experience! Return to the hotel for dinner.
Fourth day
It's time to pack our bags and return to Rome. But there's one last gem: Castel del Monte in Andria, a Gothic jewel of Frederick's architecture. It was wonderful, see you on our next vacation... together!
All you need to do is arrive at Roma Tiburtina station on the morning of the first day, where your tour guide will be waiting to accompany you on your road trip. We will provide details of the meeting point once you have registered. Transfer from Gravina to Rome will also be provided at the end of the holiday. Local travel will also be by minibus. The cost of fuel, parking, and motorway tolls will be shared between the participants.
If you want to travel independently, the nearest airport is Bari-Karol Wojtyla, 46 km away. There is a train service from Bari to Gravina operated by Ferrovie Appulo Lucane. Timetables: http://ferrovieappulolucane.it/
