Pantelleria: trekking in the black pearl of the Mediterranean

First day

Arrival atPantelleria airport and transfer to the hotel in Punta Fram. After check-in, we will have a few hours to relax by the pool and begin to immerse ourselves in the magic of this volcanic island. It is the perfect time to get to know our fellow travelers and meet the official guide of the Pantelleria Island National Park (GAE) , who will present the details of the program for the coming days. Easy treks will take us through breathtaking landscapes, the charm of Lake of Venus, the history of the dammusi , and the authentic flavors of Pantelleria tradition.

Second day

The two faces of Pantelleria
The best way to approach Pantelleria is to explore its perimeter: aboard a private, air-conditioned minibus, we set off to discover the two sides of the island, characterized by diverse vegetation and colors. On the western side, we reach the picturesque district of Scauri. On the eastern side, the district of Tracino, with its maze of narrow streets. We stop at a cove sheltered from the wind for a refreshing swim: bring your mask, because the snorkeling is spectacular! Return to the hotel in the early afternoon, free time to relax by the pool or organize an activity of your choice. Dinner at the hotel.

Third day

Volcanic Pantelleria
Let's set off to explore the northwestern side of theisland of Pantelleria, following trail 973. We walk among dammusi and lava flows until we reach Punta Spadillo, with its imposing lighthouse dominating the landscape. Here we visit the Volcanological Museum, , which is perfect for understanding the origins of this unique island. From Punta Spadillo, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Laghetto delle Ondine, where we treat ourselves to a refreshing dip. We continue through the lunar landscapes of Khaggiar and Gelfiser, crossing ancient lava flows. After a packed lunch, we return to the hotel in the afternoon and meet up for dinner.

Fourth day

Where the earth smokes and the sea appears
Today we explore thevolcanic hinterland of Pantelleria following trail 971. Starting from the Sauna di Beniculà, we climb towards Fossa del Russo, from where we can see the Favare, fumaroles that emit water vapor up to 50°C, among which Favara Grande, a unique geosite where the earth seems to breathe. Through the Passo del Vento, the view here is spectacular: of the sea and the southwestern districts, with terraces cultivated with Zibibbo grapes, as well as expanses of caper bushes. We descend along the slope of the crater towards the Benikulà Cave for a healthy swim. We return to the starting point and take the minibus to the hotel. We will stop in the Contrada di Zighidì for a quick visit to the Byzantine tombs. We then reach the Contrada di Scauri for a stop at Bar U Friscu. Free afternoon, we meet up for dinner.

Fifth day

Free day, Pantelleria spirit
Breathe in the scents of the sea and nature carried here by the wind. Take your time, treat yourself to some well-deserved relaxation by the pool or on the beach, and chat with your fellow travelers. If you prefer to be active, additional excursions can be organized: ask your guide for information! For example, we recommend one of the best boat trips around the island of Pantelleria , with stops at the most beautiful and sheltered coves and spots. Lunch on board with fresh bread and caper pâté, pasta with Pantelleria pesto, water, wine, and coffee. The boats can accommodate up to 14 people including the crew and are equipped with shaded areas and restrooms.

Sixth day

Volcanic trails and agricultural soul
Let's set off for Punta Fram, a lunar landscape shaped by the lava flows of Mount Gelkamar. We reach Scauri and then Rekale, admiring the dammusi. We cross the Serraglia plain to "Barone," where the guide will reveal the history of the lands cultivated with Zibibbo and Passito. Following trails 976-977 and 979, we arrive at the Piana di Ghirlanda, among holm oaks, myrtles, and volcanic kuddies. Free lunch break. In the afternoon, an AromAperitivo awaits us in a traditional dammuso: Ines, German by birth and Pantelleria by adoption, will welcome us into her small dammuso with an olfactory journey to discover the island's aromatic plants and the use of over 20 local essences. The natural wines of Pantelleria will accompany us on this exciting discovery!

Seventh day

The warm breath of Lake Venus
The Lake of Venus, one of the iconic geosites of Pantelleria, is our destination today. We follow trail 972, which runs along the eastern shore of the lake, to Sillume, an uphill trail with spectacular views of the Kannaki valley. We reach a special spot where thermal waters flow at 50°C, creating a mud rich in minerals. We dip our hands in the natural mud to apply it to our skin and let it dry, enjoying the beauty and relaxation that only nature can offer. This is followed by a tasting of typical Pantelleria products at the Nicchia della Bonomo&Giglio Laboratory and a visit to the Capper Museum. Free afternoon.

Eighth day

After our last breakfast, we say goodbye to Pantelleria, an island that has given us unique emotions. From the paths of Montagna Grande to the charm of Lake Venere, from the sunsets over the lava flows to the intense flavors of local products, we experienced an authentic and unforgettable journey. The transfer to the airport for our return flights awaits us, with the certainty that the memory of this holiday in Pantelleria will remain in our hearts for a long time to come.
