last year's survey score

The Blue Savage in a group and with an expert guide: a week of excursions in the Baunei area, between Santa Maria Navarrese, Cala Mariolu, and Cala Goloritzè.

Here’s a group hiking trip you absolutely must try next summer: the Selvaggio Blu in Sardinia. It’s one of Italy’s most famous hikes and winds along the island’s eastern coastline, between Cala Gonone and Santa Maria Navarrese, overlooking the Supramonte coastal range. There are several variations of the Selvaggio Blu: during this week-long trek in Sardinia, you’ll follow the easiest trails with our expert guide, always starting from the hotel in Santa Maria Navarrese and heading up toward the Baunei mountains, through Mediterranean scrub and along cliffs plunging into the sea, until you reach the most beautiful beaches of Ogliastra. Many of the group hikes will end at the seaside, where we’ll take a dip with the Pedra Longa and the beaches of Cala Goloritzè and Cala Mariolu as our backdrop. If you enjoy outdoor vacations and are looking for an exciting adventure to experience during Easter break or in June or September, come to Sardinia with us!

WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Program

First day

The main airport for reachingthe hotel in Santa Maria Navarrese is Cagliari. From there, you can make your own way to the hotel or book a shared transfer and travel with the other participants. In the late afternoon, we’ll meet with the guide to go over the details of the week-long hiking trip in Sardinia that lies ahead and have dinner together. Over the next few days, we’ll hike along many scenic trails around the Gulf of Orosei: these moderate-level hikes, suitable for those accustomed to hiking in the mountains, will always lead us to the shores of the Sardinian sea. It will be a week filled with excitement and immersion in Sardinia’s unspoiled nature.

Second day

In the Heart of the Selvaggio Blu
We begin our hike with an expert guide along the famous Selvaggio Blu, one of Sardinia’s most spectacular trails. The hike starts right from the hotel, ascending to the panoramic saddle of Monte Oro, where a breathtaking view of the wildOgliastra coast unfolds. This first stretch allows us to immerse ourselves in the unique landscapes between Baunei and Santa Maria Navarrese, characterized by limestone cliffs, spectacular gorges, and lush vegetation.
The hike, ideal for getting to know the Sardinian terrain, also offers glimpses of the Mediterranean scrub and the crystal-clear sea, making every step an unforgettable experience.

Loop trail with an elevation gain of 500 meters and a loss of 500 meters.

Third day

Rocky Balconies Overlooking the Sea in Ogliastra
A short drive to Pedra Longa, another 128 meters, and from there we climb toward the Cengia di Giradili, a panoramic balcony overlooking Sardinia’s eastern coast. The trail winds through the traditional sheepfolds of Us Piggius at an elevation of 650 meters and the typical Sardinian Mediterranean scrub, with a constant view of the sea. Amid towering cliffs and centuries-old juniper trees, we reach the area’s only freshwater spring and enjoy a well-deserved swim at Forrola Beach. Along this route, we’ll experience an authentic journey into traditional Sardinian culture as we make our way tothe Baunei Plateau, also known as the Golgo Plateau. We’ll return to the hotel, where we’ll relax before enjoying a traditional Sardinian dinner.

Full-day hike, 6 hours. Elevation gain: 700 meters; elevation loss: 400 meters.

Fourth day

Supramonte: A Wild Spirit and Ancient Roots
Today’s guided excursion takes us to explore the Supramonte, an unspoiled environment where people have always lived in close contact with rugged, wild nature. We’ll venture into Sardinia’s pristine wilderness on a moderately challenging hike that promises to be a truly memorable experience. We’ll hike to panoramic viewpoints that stretch from Sardinia’s peaks all the way to the sea, surrounded by the scents of the Mediterranean scrub. Before returning to the hotel, we’ll stop to visit an important Sardinian archaeological site to learn a little more about Nuragic culture. The hotel is very close to the beach—shall we go for a quick dip before dinner?

Full-day hike with 4 hours of actual walking. Elevation gain: 400 meters; elevation loss: 400 meters.

Fifth day

Rocky Windows and Turquoise Waters
The fourth stage of our group’s Selvaggio Blu hike takes us through rockyoutcrops, furrowed fields, and ancient sheepfolds until we reachthe Arco di Ispuligi, a large natural window from which to admire the entire Gulf of Orosei. Thanks to a series of passages equipped by shepherds with juniper logs and by following the old mule trails, we reach the spectacular beach of Cala Mariolu, one of the most beautiful beaches in Ogliastra. There couldn’t be a better place to recharge our energy than this stunning beach, where we’ll stop for lunch. A dip in its crystal-clear waters will be irresistible! The return trip will be a true experience: by boat to Santa Maria Navarrese (not included in the price), cruising along one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world; or, alternatively, if the whole group agrees, on foot along the seaside hiking trails.

Full-day hike, 6 hours. Elevation gain: +300 meters; elevation loss: –550 meters.

Sixth day

Cala Goloritzé: The Perfect Finale t
We wrap up our week of hiking in Sardinia with a hike to the summit of Punta Salinas, a stunning natural viewpoint overlooking Sardinia’s eastern coast. We’re at the most beautiful viewpoint in the Selvaggio Blu. From here, we make a quick descent and soon reach the small but charming beach of Cala Goloritzé, a Natural Monument of the Sardinia region. The landscape is spectacular: a distinctive natural arch to the south and the famous spire, standing a full 142 meters tall, a destination for climbers from all over the world. We’ll stop to visit Cala Goloritzè and enjoy a well-deserved swim before heading back up the Bacu Goloritzè valley and returning to the plateau. If it’s not possible to reach Cala Goloritzè or if access or reservations aren’t permitted, the guide will suggest an alternative route.

Full day, 5 hours. Elevation gain +500 meters, elevation loss –500 meters. Packed lunch.

Seventh day

The final group breakfast on an organized vacation always has a special feel to it. These are the last moments to share memories of hikes through Sardinia’s unspoiled nature with new friends and to plan the next reunion.
