WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Program

First day

We’ll arrive at the hotel in Latina in the early afternoon and check in. We’ll have time to relax and settle in while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the hotel. Before dinner, we’ll meet with the group and the guide for a briefing on the week-long trek in Lazio—a chance to get to know each other and learn about the itinerary and all the experiences that await us. The day will end with a dinner featuring authentic flavorsfrom the Agro Pontino region—perfect for immediately immersing ourselves in the atmosphere of this journey through nature, history, and adventure. After dinner, we’ll chat for a bit, and then it’s off to bed!

Second day

Kayaking at the Circeo Promontory and Sabaudia
After breakfast, an adventure combining sea and nature awaits us in the Circeo National Park. Paddling our kayaks through the calm waters of the wetlands, we’ll reach Torre Paola. From there, the Tyrrhenian Sea will open up before us. The journey continues with a hike along the beach until we reach one of the “Città di Fondazione” of the Agro Pontino region: Sabaudia, an icon of Rationalist architecture. We’ll stroll among its perfect geometric lines, exploring iconic buildings such as the Casa del Combattente, the Town Hall, and the Post Office, which evoke an atmosphere suspended between the painterly visions of De Chirico and the poetry of Pasolini. Return to the hotel for some relaxation and dinner.

Kayak route info: 6 km, duration 4 hours; beach/Sabaudia hiking tour: duration 4 hours

Third day

Bike Tour Through the Circeo Forest and the Coastal Lakes
This morning, we’ll hop on our bikes for a ride through the heart of Circeo National Park. Our itinerary will take us to explore the Circeo Forest, a true green lung, and the coastal lakes of Caprolace and Paola. We’ll leave Sabaudia behind, cycling through the countryside of the Agro Pontino, following the historic “migliare”—the straight roads that mark the distance in Roman miles between Rome and the Agro Pontino. We’ll also pass through the rationalist architecture of Sabaudia, a one-of-a-kind city. After this day filled with excitement and unforgettable views, we’ll return to the hotel to relax a bit.

Route info: 35 km, duration 6 hours, elevation gain 0 meters

Fourth day

Arx Circeii: In Search of the Acropolis
After the wonderful excursions of the past few days, we’re taking it easy this morning: we can choose to relax at the hotel, cooling off in its beautiful outdoor pool, or book a treatment at the hotel’s exclusive spa. For those who prefer to explore a bit, we highly recommend visiting one of Italy’s most romantic spots, the Giardino di Ninfa, or setting out to discover Latina, arranging your own transportation (not included in the package). We’ll save our energy for the afternoon, when we’ll set out to explore one of the most evocative areas of the Circeo National Park:the ancient fortress of Arx Circeii. We’ll hike up the trails leading tothe ancient Acropolis to admire the remains of the mighty Cyclopean walls. From up here, the view is unparalleled: the sun setting over the sea paints the Tyrrhenian coast in shades of red and gold. We could arrange for a packed dinner to enjoy the sunset or have dinner on our own.

Walking route info: 10 km, duration 5 hours, elevation gain +400 meters

Fifth day

Canoeing on the Cavata Riverand the Temple of Jupiter
Today we’ll embark on a fascinating journey along the Cavata River, one of the hidden gems ofthe Agro Pontino. We are on the legendary Regina Viarum, the Via Appia, a crossroads for Roman travelers, merchants, and legionaries. Right from the banks of this small oasis—which is now our hotel—we’ll set out in canoes to paddle upstream. The water flows from the springs of the Lepini Mountains, creating a unique ecosystem. In the afternoon, we’ll visit Monte Sant’Angelo, known as Monte di Giove, at an elevation of 227 meters. Here stands the Temple of Jupiter Anxur, which we’ll explore on a guided tour. Afterward, we’ll have the chance to visit Terracina, known as the home of the sorceress Circe in the Odyssey. We’ll then return to the hotel for our final dinner together.

Canoe route information: 6 km, duration 3 hours; easy hiking excursion

Sixth day

After days spent immersed in nature, surrounded by crystal-clear waters, ancient ruins, and breathtaking landscapes, it’s time to say goodbye. Alternatively, enjoy one last outing in nature: a relaxing visit to Lake Fogliano, where flora and fauna blend in perfect harmony between land and water. Itinerary information
Here are the details for each activity: SEA KAYAKING: A challenging and fun excursion suitable even for those who have never kayaked or canoed before; however, it requires confidence in open water, physical stamina, and a willingness to explore the always-sunny marine and coastal environment. For those prone to seasickness, Travelgum is highly recommended! TEMPLE OF JUPITER ANXUR: An easy walk on compacted ground that presents no difficulty. ARX CIRCEII: A moderately difficult hike with a moderate elevation gain concentrated mainly in the first part of the route, suitable for anyone in good physical and mental condition who enjoys walking. The trail will be entirely exposed to the sun as it faces southwest. The terrain, especially on the descent, winds along a rocky path that is exposed in places. CANOEING ON THE CAVATA RIVER: An easy and fun excursion on slow-moving lowland waters, suitable even for those who have never kayaked or canoed before, though a minimal level of physical agility is required to navigate the route. EBIKE THROUGH FORESTS AND WETLANDS: A challenging excursion since it is done on pedal-powered mountain bikes; suitable for anyone in good physical and mental condition with endurance for physical exertion, even though the route has no elevation changes as it is entirely on flat terrain. The terrain we’ll encounter consists of 50% asphalt and 50% dirt roads.
Notes
Suitable for: vegetarians. Vegan and gluten-free menus available upon request only. If there are no seats available on the shuttle, the guide’s shuttle will be used.
Important
As with any active trip, the itinerary is subject to change—including the order of activities or stops—depending on weather conditions, road conditions, any temporary closures or restrictions at sites, locations, or areas to be visited, as well as the guide’s judgment, who will always act in the best interests of the group and the safety of the participants. The activity will take place even in case of bad weather, except in situations involving weather alerts or conditions that could compromise safety; we therefore recommend bringing appropriate gear for possible precipitation and temperature changes.
