WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
Towards Cilento: Paestum at sunset
We leave Rome in the morning with our private minibus to begin a wonderful outdoor vacation in Cilento. After a relaxing journey, we stop in San Vittore for a tasty break, with tasting Campania buffalo mozzarella, a true excellence of local gastronomy. We then set off again towards the Campania coast and, in about two hours, we arrive at theArchaeological Area of Paestum, one of the most evocative places in Italy. We will visit the majestic Doric temples and walk among the ruins in a unique atmosphere, just at the magical moment of sunset. Our group trip to Cilento continues towards Sapri, overlooking the Gulf of Policastro, famous for the figure of the Spigolatrice (Gleaner) and its connection with Carlo Pisacane. Hotel accommodation and dinner together.
Second day
Maratea and Christ the Redeemer
Departure for Basilicata, ready for an unforgettable day discovering Maratea, one of the most authentic gems of Southern Italy. We will visit the historic center and from there we will set off on one of the most beautiful sea view treks in Southern Italy! We will take a circular route that will allow us to admire the splendid sculpture by architect Innocenzi, namely the Christ the Redeemer of Maratea. Standing 21 meters tall, it dominates Monte San Biagio and is visible from all the towns overlooking the Gulf of Policastro. It is second only to the statue of Christ in Rio de Janeiro! We will cross a picturesque holm oak forest to return to the town center: if we have time and energy, we can stop to watch the sunset from another point on the coast overlooking the sea. We will return to Sapri and stroll through the town before dinner, during which we can share our impressions of this day spent between Campania and Basilicata!
Third day
The Infreschi Trail
Today we move to nearby Scario, a little gem of Cilento. This is where the Sentiero degli Infreschi, one of the most beautiful treks along the coast, which in this season offers more intense colors and absolute tranquility. The path winds through Mediterranean scrub, scents of damp earth and sea, with spectacular views of the bays that are full of life in summer but now enveloped in an almost magical peace.
We will walk at a leisurely pace, stopping to admire the most picturesque coves, where the waves draw perfect patterns on the sand and silence reigns supreme. Before returning, we will stop at a pastry shop to warm up with a traditional dessert and a hot drink: a small pleasure after a day that combines nature, exercise, and taste in one of the most authentic settings of the Cilento Park.
Fourth day
Bussento Oasis
Today's route will take us to visit the Bussento River spring in Morigerati, with its truly impressive canyons. The oasis, located within the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, is managed jointly by the Municipality of Morigerati and the WWF Foundation. Stop at Muschiaia, the moss station, the most important in southern Italy, which can be reached by skirting springs, waterfalls, and pools in a landscape that is nothing short of dreamlike. Here, the source of the Bussento offers a unique spectacle, with crystal clear water and the echo of an unspoiled environment, perfect for those who love trekking and nature. Evening in a typical restaurant in the exclusive marina of Maratea , serving fish dishes. How does that sound?
Fifth day
The Certosa di Padula and return
Today is the day of our return, but before saying goodbye to Cilento , one last exciting stop awaits us: a visit to the Certosa di Padula, also known as the Certosa di San Lorenzo. This imposing monastic complex, one of the largest in Europe, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. Strolling through the cloisters, ancient cells, and monumental spaces, we will be enchanted by the famous stone spiral staircase, a true architectural marvel. It is the perfect way to conclude our journey through Cilento , admiring once again the beauty and history of this land. After the visit, we set off again in the direction of Rome, arriving in the late afternoon, around 5 p.m. A final farewell and the promise to meet again soon for a new adventure together!
All you need to do is arrive at Roma Tiburtina station on the morning of the first day, where your guide will be waiting to accompany you on your road trip. We will provide details of the meeting point once you have registered. Transfer from Sapri to Rome will also be provided at the end of the holiday. Local travel will also be by minibus with driver. Fuel and motorway tolls will be paid for from a shared fund contributed to by all participants.
