WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Program
First day
Focaccia, Narrow Streets, and First Night in the Harbor
The adventure begins as soon as you arrive: for those arriving by train, you can request a transfer to the port, where the gulet is already moored and ready. Once settled in our cabin, we go ashore, because Imperia must be experienced right away.
A must-try tip: treat yourself to the best focaccia and farinata in town at A Sciamadda or U Papa, two historic spots that alone are worth the trip. The afternoon is yours to choose: you can stroll along the Borgo Marina waterfront, get lost among the medieval alleys of Borgo Parasio with its breathtaking view of the gulf, or head back on board for a dip in the sea and some relaxation on deck.
In the evening, dine on board, then head out: the characteristic bars of Porto Maurizio are the perfect place to kick off the weekend and chat with the other members of the group.
Second day
Imperia–Sanremo: the most scenic stretch of the Tyrrhenian Cycle Route
For early risers, the highlight of the day is a quick stop at the Porto Maurizio covered market, among stalls of aromatic herbs, Taggiasca olives, and local products. For everyone else, breakfast on board is already a great start.
Then pick up your bikes and let’s go! The route is flat, away from traffic, on a former railway right-of-way overlooking the sea: 25 kilometers of continuous views of the Mediterranean through San Lorenzo al Mare, Marina degli Aregai, Santo Stefano al Mare, Riva Ligure, Arma di Taggia, and Bussana, all the way to Sanremo.
We arrive in town around lunchtime, just in time for the Sardenaira: the traditional Sanremo focaccia topped with tomatoes, anchovies, Taggiasca olives, capers, garlic, and oregano. Then free time to explore: the Passeggiata dell'Imperatrice, the harbor, the historic center of La Pigna, the Ariston Theater, the Casino, the San Siro Cathedral, the Russian Orthodox Church, and Villa Nobel are all within walking distance.
In the afternoon, we reverse our route and head back toward Imperia. But we won’t leave without a refreshing swim at one of the beaches along the way!
Dinner on board, then a walk to the port of Oneglia: the arcades of Calata Cuneo, the pier, the Spianata di Borgo Peri and the lighthouse. A leisurely evening, with the scent of the sea and the lights over the harbor.
Third day
Olive Tree Museum, the Gulf of Diano, and the final bike ride
For early risers, Sunday starts off in the best possible way: a dip at dawn, when the sea is still all yours.
After breakfast, a cultural stop that never fails to surprise: the Carlo Carli Olive Museum in Imperia tells the millennia-old story of the olive tree through archaeological finds, historic oil mills, a vast collection of jars, and ancient agricultural tools. The tour concludes in a charming garden and at the Carli store, where you can taste and purchase olive oil, Taggiasca olives, pesto, and Ligurian specialties.
Hop back on your bike for the final ride along the Ciclovia dei Fiori, this time heading toward Diano Marina, the pearl of the Dianese Gulf between Capo Berta and Capo Cervo. Lunch break by the sea, then back to return the bikes and check out.
Before saying goodbye, we have to get some Pissalandrea, the focaccia of Oneglia par excellence, invented by Admiral Andrea Doria and topped with olives, salted anchovy paste, garlic, and thyme. A piece of Liguria to take home. And if you just can’t tear yourself away from the Riviera, a visit to Villa Grock, the famous clown’s extravagant residence, is one of the most original and least-known places in all of Liguria.
Direct arrival in Imperia; the meeting point and parking information will be arranged at the time of booking
Arrival at Imperia station; shuttle service to and from the station included in the participation fee.
